How soon after the surgery can i have alcohol?

It depends on what your surgeon says. You will notice, whenever it is, that a little wine may hit you HARD postop.

You are likely to be told to wait three to six months - alcohol can be a powerful stomach irritant.

Of course you can live without wine and cheese for a while. I've cut way, way down on it preop. A few months ago, I couldn't imagine dinner without my glass of wine. But these days I skip it unless it's a special occasion, and I have managed to survive. I know I'll have to do without for a few months after surgery, and I figure it's a small price to pay for giving up my chances of developing diabetes ;-)

If you can't live without bread and wine, I think you should have both now.

But have no more than three bottles of wine at a time. And no more than a pound of wine -- preferably something soft like an aged brie.

Your newly traumatized stomach will love it.

Or try this: What does YOUR surgeon say? There are so many different versions of surgeon instructions re alcohol post-op that we have wars about the subject here at BP. Search for the alcohol threads. You'll be entertained for weeks.

@@stasy-prime I'd say if you are on the liquid stage then that's the perfect time! lol cheese at the soft food stage. lol

Really depends on how you feel. I had a drink like 2 months after my surgery and it hit me hard but mainly because of the sugar in the mixed drinks I had. All surgeons are gonna say at least 6 months to a year so just do what you feel is right for you.

I was wondering how soon I would be able to enjoy my wine ( mostly red wine) again. I can't live without wine and cheese!

The real answer? Whenever you want. Whether you tolerate it or not is a different story.

Most people will tell you to wait the recommended time or not to sabotage yourself. I'm not one of them.

I travel for a living and I started being able to enjoy a few cocktails at 3 weeks out. I enjoy long islands without the Coke and hurricanes. Is it full of sugar and not the best decision? Yep. Has it slowed down my weight loss? Not at all. Did my tolerance change from pre-op? Nope...and I'm still losing 7-9 lbs a week.

Everyone's journey is different. If you learn moderation and your sleeve can tolerate it...

Really I was told my by options class given by Kasier that under no circumstances that we were to drink alcohol. Plus my weight loss is more important than a glass of wine.

Our program warned us about transfer addiction. I have had a couple of cocktails for very special occasions, but typically, it's not worth the calories for me

I think the fact that you feel you can't live without it is the exact reason why you should avoid it.

I feel the same way about bread. Crusty, garlicky, cheesy bread. Last week in Vegas, at 7 months out, I had one small bite of bread at a French cafe. Meh. Now I can definitely live without it.

I was told at least 1 year and it well only be like beer he said it would hit you twice as hard as it would before your surgery

While I agree with all the previous responses, you get to choose what works for you. I'm 9 weeks post op, and I had a half a glass of wine at week 2. I'm 35 pounds down, and still have a glass each night.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
