I still go out to eat a couple times a week.

I just eat responsibly now.

I wouldn't change a thing.

I sip on half a glass of wine, take a few bites and play with my food , nobody really pays attention.. I used to drink a bottle of wine, eat an app dinner and desert..I don't miss it at all!! Skinny and healthy is so worth it ! Good luck with your decision

Thank you so much for the replies everyone. I appologize in the delay of my reply, I'm still trying to figure out my way around the forum. I have my initial consultation on Tuesday! Does anyone have any advice for that appointment? Things to say/not to say etc...

The trickiest part is the history of "trying". I collected everything I could find that proved I had had a problem for a long time and had tried to to deal with it myself and then wrote up something that read like a medical report.

I included dates and weights, scanned comments from my PCP proclaiming me obese and prescribing a low-fat diet, prescriptions to diet pills, and graphs from my fitness log.

This made it very easy for someone to use to prove that I had exhausted the self-help avenue.

Otherwise, you may have to going into a 6 month pre-opt program. Unless of course you're not quite ready...

I agree with the the advice on history of trying. My insurance company was a stickler on that. Bring dates, pounds lost, etc. Especially important will be proof of a diet plan tried in the past 12 months. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out and I feel so amazing! I know it's only my stomach that was cut but I feel like part of my brain was also changed that day. I see food very differently now, and it's been really easy to eat right. Good luck!

The only issues I have ran into is going out on dates, some guys feel you are wasting their money by not clearing your plate or something. I have heard this from other people too. It is a quick and fast way to weed out cheap jerks. If they are complaining about how much you aren't eating, they are probably terrible tippers too, and that tells you all you need to know.

Other than that, I do just fine. I have a big personality and I talk a lot so most people don't pay attention or care. I have also always been a picky food snob so that helps to. If I don't eat something people assume I am just being me.

Sorry I'm not sure how to quote. I'm only 6 months post partum so I haven't been on a strict diet in the past 12 months because of breastfeeding. Will that be a problem?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
