Sleeve and sushi?

Recommended Posts

I have had sushi 2x since surgery. It is amusing that it fills me up now, I was always annoyed with it before because it wasn't filling.

I don't eat the rice. I suggest not eating the rice. You still need all your room for Protein. Enjoy the flavors skip the rice.

It took me quite some time to be able to eat sushi, but I can now as long as I'm careful. I eat sashimi mainly. Cucumber salad, sashimi, and maybe 1-2 pieces of a roll. Be careful with the rice. I find I do best with brown rice. I don't do the miso because it's a liquid.

Enjoy! Sushi is great for you. :)

Over 3 years out and 2 pieces fills me up. I just get egg drop Soup and eat a piece or two off my friends plate. I do like the tuna but still just a couple of bites.

You'll want to learn how to go out to any kind of restaurants and be able to enjoy a meal. My wife and daughter have finally gotten used to the fact that I tweak every meal I eat out. The wait staff are always happy to accommodate the fact that I don't eat carbs or sugar. Frequently I'll replace the starch with a second veggie. (But I get full before I can eat it anyway.) So go online and look the sushi restaurant's menu with an eye toward avoiding the "white stuff". There's pretty much always an option you can enjoy. And if it's not posted, give them a call to find out about making you a sashimi salad or something like that. You've had lots of great suggestions already. Give them a shot, and stay strong! Once you get the hang of it, eating out is easy -- and still fun!

I went out for sushi tonight at my favorite sushi restaurant. I was sleeved 3/1/16. I had 3 pieces of sashimi (butterfish/Walu) a Dipped in a bit of low sodium soy. No rice.. Just fish and it was great! I didn't have any issues. I had been craving sushi for a week. The only downside was even though I ply dabbed in the soy sauce, I found waiting the hour to drink was torture.

I have been wanting sushi so bad and almost got some today, but was worried it would make me sick and I was running errands, so I didn't want to risk it. I know the place I go 1 roll would be 4 meals at least they are so big.

Does your surgeon's office have a nutritionist you can ask about it? My program does not allow rice at all because it is too high in carbs. However, I ate a few pieces of sashimi and did fine. I am 8 months out.

5 months almost for me. I eat sushi any time i can. As others stated, sashimi is a good option. Also my favorite sushi place has nigiri, which is a piece of fish on just a little bit of rice. I usually order 1 sushi and 1 nigiri, perfect.

Almost 3 months out now. I eat sushi, sashimi about 2x a month with no problems. I first ate it at 6 months to let the stomach acid get back to normal as that kills any parasites in the uncooked fish at my nutritionists request.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
