Bowel movement issue. Please help

Recommended Posts

Curious if this is the norm. I had RNY on Tuesday and am still on full liquid diet. I haven't had a bowel movement yet but today it seems like it's trying to come out. It's like right there but won't come out. Should I just keep walking and try to drink more or should I go to the store and get a stool softener?

What do you want to do? If you don't want to wait any longer get a stool softener.

I would say do both. Drinking a ton of Water is only good right now. The more you can get in the better. And if you feel uncomfortable or anxious, then go ahead and get a stool softener, or Smooth Move tea (my personal favorite. very easy on my tummy). It can take time for your digestive system to go back to normal, and you just don't have the same amount of food to digest as before. But yeah... smooth move tea! :D

I agree smooth move tea works! I try to take it once or twice per week.

There may be times when you don't go for a while. I use stool softeners every day otherwise I am always constipated. Even 14 months post op.

I had surgery last Monday the 16th. On Friday I felt the same way, it was just "right there". I used a ducalax suppository, worked like a charm. I have a feeling I'll be doing the same today or tomorrow.....

This is something that I was not prepared for when I decided to have my RNY. Constipation ! With the high Protein / low fat diet, stools are solid and hard, constipation is a big issue. I take stool softeners daily as well as either sugar free Citrucel or sugar free Metamucel multiple times daily. I add a little real lemon juice to my Fiber drinks for extra vit. C :)

I first went for the stool softener but the one I have is a liquid filled gel cap so not splittable. What do people use?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
