Regretting it already..(day 1)

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days post op, before surgery my cousin gave me the best advice ever--she had RNY last year. "Just make it through the first 2 weeks." My first couple days were tough, but I'm keeping that in my head & sure enough by day 4 things were really turning around. Keep sipping & use pain meds to stay comfortable! We're all rooting for you ????

Totally agree. The first weeks are just about getting through and getting enough fluids to stay hydrated.

To my surprise my first day felt great but my second day after i got to the hospital was awful. I did regret it but on my 4th day i feel better and am happy with my choice of having the sleeve. The pain will go away. Keep your head up.

I think most of us have had regrets about what we did to are ourselves. It will pass I'm almost three months out and lost 59 lbs feel better everyday. I'm so glad I had WLS only wish I did it years ago. Keep posting you have great support here.

You can take this to the bank:

1. How you feel one day after surgery has nothing to do with how you will feel a week, a month, six months, a year after surgery. Not physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.

2. And how you feel a week after surgery has nothing to do with how you will feel a month, six months, a year after surgery.

3. Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- has that WTF HAVE I DONE moment. Everyone. And then they gradually (within hours or days) remember, "Oh, I know why I did it. OK, I can do this." And then they do it. And then they get used to it. And then it becomes normal. Truly normal. Not weird. Normal.

Best to you! Everything you're feeling has been felt by hundreds of thousands of others who've just done what you've just done. And they did fine.

:)

Your body just went through major trauma. You may have been scared leading up to the surgery.

Relax, take a deep breath and think about all the positive aspects your life will have post surgery.

Follow your surgeon's instructions and keep yourself well hydrated.

Every day gets better.

I can't listen to it because I'm at work. But that's Monty Python and Sunny Side of the Street, isn't it?

Classic and very very apropos! Love it! ????

Here is a big hug for you!!!!! You made the right decision! I have read so many post about people that dont have any pain. I wonder how that is possible, but cool for them!!!

You have lots of people here you can vent, b*tch to, and talk to. We are all in this together!!!!!! I have surgery Tuesday and and hoping for the no pain route :) I have had 2 C sections and 2 major knee surgeries so I am thinking I can handle the pain. I have to!!!!! I know it will get better and better and the outcome will be phenomenal!!!

I had horrible pain as well. It was a tough first couple weeks. I was sleeved on 10/28. I have a friend who had no pain at all, so I was really surprised how bad it hurt and I am a RN. Everyone's experiences are totally different. I have a challenge getting all my fluids and Protein in still. Just keep going. They best advice I could give you is to walk. I know it hurts like hell to get up and get started but walking really helps with the recovery process. That's all I did at first is walk drink and take pain meds. Also when you get home you may prefer a recliner. I slept on my recliner for several days after surgery. Good luck!! You are not alone. :)

Hang in there! The first 10 days were the hardest for me. I went through a roller coaster of emotions. I am sure it had a lot to do with my body have so little food and Water compared to before surgery. Take it one day at a time and before you know it a month will have passed and you will feel so much better!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
