I'm 11/16/15... I'm still in awe that it's this close!!! I go for all my pre-op blood work in the AM, had my EKG today!! I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time!! I just hope my stupid "cheating" won't postpone anything! I'm just extra paranoid I'm sure!! Lol it's awesome that I no longer am doing this alone!! For 5mos I was in such a dark place until I found this app! since all our surgeries are so close... I would love to stay in touch. I'm still very new to this app so I'm learning how to use it! I'll keep all of you in my prayers! Again.. God bless each of you on your journey!!!

The first 3 days were absolutely the hardest. I had a constant headache and very low energy. I am on Day 5 now and I can say that it does get easier...at least it has for me.

The first few days I kind of cheated by eating 1 salad with lean chicken or turkey in it. But with that said, many doctors allow that as part of their particular version of the pre-op diet so I don't consider it a complete fail...just an ad lib to my doctors recommendations.

The Post-Op diet is quite consistent across the board for sleevers. However, the Pre-Op diet ranges from pure liquids for some to liquids plus a salad/lean meat for others to being able to eat whatever you want up until surgery. It is quite bewildering all of the differences among Pre-Op diets.

well I'm able to have dinner on my diet since it's a high Protein diet I can have lean meat and veggies I did fine today and didn't get hungry but I was craving things like chocolate, cupcake things like that ugh but I didn't cheat today!!!

omg I did great too thankfully I'm so happy I was craving a few things but I didn't have it only one week away from changing my life forever I can't risk making it possible we have to be strong it'll get better

It sucks. And glad to know that others are struggling as well. Like all of you I worry the pre op liquid diet isn't going as it should and glad to know I'm not alone with this struggle. My appointment is on the 17th.

oh yes we are I'm happy that at least we have support from each other and we are not going through this alone , my surgery it's the 19th I honestly can't wait hahah good luck !!

I'm sort of struggling with this pre-op diet also. What's even worse for me is that I'll most likely have to do it twice because we are expecting my insurance company to deny me. They have filed bankruptcy.

I have another insurance carrier lined up for 12/1 and a back up surgery date for December.

The only thing saving me with this diet is that I'm allowed plain Greek low carb yogurt & cheese sticks for Snacks.

Ohhh no!! I pray all works in your favor!! I know this pre-op is difficult but hey.... You'll get twice the experience!! I'm kidding, I'm miserable, watching my kids eat real food is torture... But I know it's all gonna be worth it in the end!!! I've been trying to go for walks and get out of the house when they cook so it's not too bad! I'm actually feeling better just due to the fact I'm accomplishing something to better my health, like when I quit smoking! And I thought that was hard lol

I begin in 2 days. Not looking forward to 6-8 weeks without real food. But I believe it'll be worth it in the end.

I met with the dietician and went over all his required steps. It looks hard :/ but certainly doable.

2 weeks of liquid is what I have to focus on right now.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
