I was also banded on 9/11/07 but didn't lose 20 pounds. Congradulations. I can feel that I do need a fill badly.

I actually have gained 5 pounds back of my 14 pound loss. I'm due to fly to San Diego and cross the border to TJ for my fill on Thursday the 25th. As of now the airport is still open, but with those fires it may be closed by the 25th. I begin my 300 mile drive to Phoenix to catch a plane to San Diego on Wed. So keeping fingers crossed that those fires stop. Horrible situation down there.

Thank you for the compliment. I feel good too. Being off of carbs I think is the biggest thing that has helped me shrink. It took awhile to not crave them anymore. I do crave chips and that is my reward when I am doing so good to have some chips. Now that I have a tight fill it is hard to eat too many so I just eat some and then that is good enough. Before I would down the whole bag no problem. It is too hard to over eat anymore so now I am finally coming to my at peace place of letting the band be the great tool that it is. Eat what your body needs not what you crave. Which was usually a double cheeseburger for me. I have to be very careful what I try to eat so I check all the labels now to make sure it has some health value to it. I am in Orange County and the airports are not closed so you should be fine. It smells like smoke outside and it has a weird tan haze outside. Good luck with your fill. It makes a big difference with cheating and eating too much. This tool is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I just want to go up to everyone I know that has eating problems and weight struggles and share my story. I don't but wish I could. You have to be careful because they could actually take it the wrong way. I have kept mine a secret to my circle of friends but want to come out of the closet soon.

Thanks! I will have to remember that. Oh, anyone had a problem with milkshakes or icecream? I had a vanilla frosty, well half of one and I thought I would asolutely die from the discomfort. COuldnt throw it up, just felt like pain in upper stomach, took gasx and it got better after an hour or so.

i'm having my first fill day after tomorrow (friday). i'm exercising my butt off literally. LOL i walk, swim, bike and walk my dogs (not all at the same time). This morning I walked 44 blocks, then after work hubby and i rode our bikes for a half hour. Tomorrow is our swim day; we swim laps for a half hour every other day.

The scales stayed stuck for about 2 weeks but I was getting in clothes I hadn't worn in YEARS. Then this week, the needle began moving to the left again!!!!!

A lady I work with had the surgery a week ago today and she's in the hospital with abdominal pain. It turns out it's gas and she had bread sunday and egg drop Soup yesterday and God knows what all. She's probably using a straw too for all I know. I was on liquids for 10 days then soft food (mushies) for a couple of weeks then moved to regular food... but I still haven't eaten bread or used a straw, or had salads, soda that's carbonated... i let my sprite go flat so i can drink it.

So I told her we went to the same classes and got the same info and you have to do what you're supposed to or it's just not going to work. She's 25 and I'm 51. I guess that's it.

Whats wrong with eating salads? I do not recall reading anything about not eating salads.

Soft Serve Ice Cream - I have no idea what the deal is but I've heard of many that have a problem with this. For me it has actually caused me to "foam" at the mouth. A PB I guess but with absolutely NO effort not even a hiccup.

salad - I've hated them my entire life and actually latched onto the tidbit that they might not be good for a band as a great excuse for never having to feel bad about not eating them in the future. However, ironically I felt forced to nibble on one a few months back at a restaurant with my boss and now I LOVE them. But seriously, the issue is that if you don't chew the lettuce well enough which is really hard to do at times you are at a risk of the lettuce becoming a flap closing off the hole in your band. A much undesired effect, supposedly even more difficult to remedy than a piece of stuck bread or meat. Though I've personally had no problem with it. I just cut or shred my lettuce up very well and add a lot of nuts to give it a more crunchy texture that seems to help me chew it more thoroughly.

I had my second fill today....very different feeling than the first one. It feels much tighter...Yah!!! I was getting a little worried...after the first one I could eat just about any amount and I had a lot of hunger pains. The weight was fluctuating 2 or 3 lbs back and forth. Good luck this week everyone and keep giving those helpful hints...they're great!

Hi All, I'm back from my first fill. I was given 4cc's in the new Lapband AP small band that holds 10cc's. Felt a lot of restriction the first few days. Don't feel so much now. Will get 2'nd fill in November.

WOO WOO I get that pain you mention when I eat too much or too fast and not chew as well. I think it is something getting stuck because it doesn't come until sometime after I ate. Get Prilosec otc 20mg/acid reducer from the drug store. Take two tablets instead of one. (2 is the prescription dose) and your pain will go away within a short time.

VIKKI

Wishing you guys :rain: San Diago and TJ had that tan haze to the sky like you mentioned and it looked very foggy (which was smoke). I saw some of the fires from the airplane. Do you live in an area that is threatened?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
