Kentucky, "who's your Doctor"

Recommended Posts

oh Yeah! I had my first adjustment on Friday, a week ago, I got 3 cc's. My niece thought that was alot. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I don't feel like it was too much. I am still able to eat, never been nauseus yet, and I am losing weight. She said her dr only gives her 1/2 cc when she gets her adjustments. so What would you all say would be the norm? Just curious. Keep losing KYana!

Cindymom--

My first adjustment was 2.5 cc's so I think you're fine. The adjustments will get smaller the further you go along. I've had 4 adjustments now and I think I'm up to 5.65 cc's at this point. The size of your fills also depends on the size of your band. The older bands only held 4 cc's. I have the AP 10 cc band so it hold a little more. And I understand that there is now a larger 14 cc band on the market now. I'm not sure which band you or your niece have but that might make a difference as well. Check with your band Dr. if you're not sure, but if you are able to swallow and are eating well with no problems I would say everything is absolutely fine. Hope that helps!! Good luck to you--sounds like you are doing great!!

Hi Busy--

I was thinking about you and wondering how you were doing!! Hang in there. I got a little side tracked and made some bad choices when I was out of town on vacation for 2 weeks also, and even gained about 3 lbs., but I got back on track pretty quickly when I got back in town. I think I just needed an adjustment which I have had now. I've now lost the 3lbs. that I gained on vacation plus 4 more, so I've got my motivation back. You might need a fill to get you going again. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress!! Hang on to the new outfit--you'll be able to wear it soon enough!! New clothes do wonders for my outlook on life these days!! Take care!!

WOW, I have been away from the boards toooo long!! You folks are rockin with your weight loss! I have come to the conclusion I am a slow but steady looser. I am down to 217 and would be more if I was consistant with my exercise. I am just lazy, I come home from work and hit my recliner....I know, that is no excuse. As far as my new outfits for Florida, that trip is still a month away so I still have hope. I am scheduled for my 2nd fill on the 19th so maybe I will get motivated again. The good thing is I am no longer wearing "woman's sizes". I have graduated down to the Misses sizes and I am thrilled with that. Keep up the good work, you folks inspire me to get off me a$$ and exercise!

hello again everyone, I say it has been awhile since I have been on. I had my surgery in June of 2008 and I was 278 now I am 230. My weight seems to be fluctuating right now. I am not real good with a steady excercise program now either. with the ice storms and wind storms we have had, I just can not seem to get motivated to get out there and work it off. I hope everyone feels as good as I do since having the surgery though. I say it is the best thing I have done to get a handle on my weight problem. everyone keep up the good work. I didn't have any copay and I had to pay $100 for something but I got a refund check on that. I have bcbs fep.

Cindymom, I understand. I did so well in the beginning, then vacation, holidays, and the ice/winds. My favorite place is again my recliner! I have regained 10 lbs and cannot seem to start the loss again. I am scheduled for a fill on the 16th so, believe it or not, I am looking forward to it.

I live close to Owensboro. Started my band process a year ago with Dr, Weiss at Georgetown. Im that proces Weiss and Okdhan started going to Jackson Purchase in Mayfield. I chose to switch my surgery to JPH because no time chage when I has an appointment and mu son lives in Murray KY which is 20 minutes away. I have a reason to visit in that area now. I had the band on Oct. 24th, The best thing I have ever done. Jenifer is GREAT. I have had 3 fills and things are well. My only complaint is that I never see the surgeon again after I left hospital which was about 3 hours after surgery. Kathy

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
