Six months down, 100 lbs lost!

Recommended Posts

I just had my six-month appt, and I'm officially down 104 lbs! I can't believe it. I'm about 50 lbs away from my goal of 175 (I'm 5'8"). More than anything, this process has showed me I don't have to be perfect. I've hit a couple of bumps during my journey, but instead of feeling discouraged, I just kept moving forward.

My nutritionist also gave me some guidelines. I can eat up to 40g of carbs per meal! I was doing that per day! Now she did say that was the max, but it'll be nice to loosen the reigns a bit (think sweet potatoes and fruit, not French fries and fettuccine lol).

I don't go back for another six months, which is a little scary. That will be the longest I've been "on my own" so I will have to keep myself in check and be honest with myself. Especially since we're getting into the winter holiday season. But my stretch goal is to be below 200 by the new year so I will stay focused!

Couldn't figure out how to edit, but I meant "reins" lol. I hate making spelling mistakes!

How wonderful. Any issues or complications?

Thank you! I'm celebrating with some new gym clothes lol. My old ones are so baggy, and I love the cute spandex and top combos lol.

I didn't have any issues, it's been relatively smooth sailing. I had to figure out when I was really full and had a couple times when I pushed it too far, but my sleeve has tolerated everything so far (starches, alcohol, sugar) albeit in limited quantities. The worst issue was Constipation despite drinking 75+ ounces/day, but my nutritionist gave me a probiotic to try so I'm ordering that tomorrow!

That's so great. I hope I have smooth sailing also. I'm having my gall bladder out at the same time. I will get my surgery date in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your quick response and I'm very happy for you.

down 104 lbs

@@rp1980

you are terrific!!

sounds like NUT/you work together nicely

i asked the nurse if i could see her again in 3 months

felt like it would help ME to be more accountable

are you keeping a daily food diary like MFP

you said NUT told you that you could have 40 carbs a meal

you mean 40 carbs a day, right?

playing devils advocate

you've lost a lot of weight in 6 months

weight loss "might" slow down "a little" now

never ever get discouraged!!

people have been shot for less!!

do you go to a support group

can you find one??

this probably would help your "accountability" issue

keep up the good job

i know you will

104 lbs down!!

you are aces

kathy

congrats

Good luck @@dsparks2024! Wish you all the best for your upcoming surgery!

Thanks @@proudgrammy! I do use MFP and my NUT added me to her monthly support group so I can get extra encouragement if I need it. They also said I could come back in three months if I felt I needed it, they just didn't want to force me. I'm expecting the weight loss to slow, but I will be sad lol. And she did mean up to 40g per meal. I did a double take! But most days I won't reach that since I eat Protein first, and I get full off of that. Thanks! You're a peach :-)

Congratulations on reaching 100 lbs lost......what an accomplishment. I don't have a date for my surgery but thinking Dec/Jan. May I ask what does MFP stand for? I've seen it several times throughout posts.

MFP is my fitness pal - it's a great app for tracking your Protein, calories, Water, etc. it has a huge database of food, so there's not too much guesswork. Thank you and I hope you get your date soon!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
