Recommended Posts

I am 9 wks pregnant and 41. I was sleeved 9/10/15. My tubes have been tied 12 years now I got pregnant 7 years ago and carried her to 29 wks and delivered her( stillborn) they tested my tubes said there wasn't a pin hole leak. I have lost 112 pounds and freaking out about weight gain and something happening with the baby

I am 40 and pregnant with my first baby. I am so nervous. I was sleeved 3 yrs ago, and didn't do well at all. Its my fault. I let me emotional control what I ate, and I was never able to get on track. I am very excited about my growing angel, but scared to gain extra weight. I know its possible to get on track and still loose. I just dont know how. Open to any feedback.

A 20% weight loss will kick start ovulation. I was a public health ob nurse and saw this all the time. And a had our last kid when I was 46... yep, right after working my butt off to loose 80 pounds. So now I am 62 with a 40 year old AND a 16 year old.

Thanks for your replies. My hope is to get pregnant after surgery. I'm 43 and no children, married 9 years.

I was sleeved 10/2011, I had a baby just before my 44th birthday. My youngest at the time was 16 yrs old.

Looking for updates from those of you who got pregnant over 40, and how your pregnancy went.

I turn 40 next month, I am 5 months post surgery. I had a child 10 years ago with fertility treatment and now wanting to have another one and know it will mean fertility treatment again (fertility issues at that time were with my husband.)

I was thinking to start treatment at 12 months Post Surgery in case they do not work first try. My doctor told me 18 months before getting pregnant, but I am stressed with my age to wait that long to start trying.

Thank you.

I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks.

I too used fertility meds to get pregnant with my last child 10 years before. We tried for a few years later but never got pregnant. We never used any form of birth control all those years so I thought we were done having children.

Then two cycles later after my 41st bday to our surprise I was pregnant again five months post surgery! I now believe my infertility was due to being overweight.

During the pregnancy I gained only 7 lbs and I delivered a healthy 8#10 baby boy in October!

I'm 43. 7 months post-op. I'm prolife, which I discussed with my surgeon, so I won't use anything that's back-up abortive (birth control pills, iud). We were using condoms despite the fact that they cause me irritation. Also, 3 years ago one of my twin sons died at birth and since then my cycles have been outrageous. I use depends diapers and stay on the couch for about 3 days a month, then have a mild period again in two weeks. So, my prolife dr told me that it is safe to be pg after sleeve. That we are way more health conscious than a teen and there are ways to help nutrition such as what they do for ppl with hyperemesis gravida (excessive vomiting during pregnancy). So we stopped with the condoms and I just found out I'm pregnant. I'm not too worried about baby because I know they will monitor me. I am worried about calling my surgeon and being treated like like a naughty teenager. Any advice? Did they do that to you?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
