changes in how things taste to us

Recommended Posts

I'm having a port replacement tomorrow and I'm on a liquid only diet for two days. Doesn't have to be Clear liquids fortunately so I bought Lipton chicken noodle Soup and strained the noodles out. I always liked the flavor of the Lipton Soups but this tasted, I swear, like ocean Water. I couldn't believe how salty it was. I tried to water it down to no avail so I wound up tossing it.

I guess this is the side effect of eating very little in the way of boxed/processed foods. The only thing I keep in the house that's processed is mac & cheese. I must admit I make that on occasion for a side dish. At 1/4 cup amounts, it didn't impact weight loss or current maintenance.

I used to hate any sugar free chocolate thing. Now I actually like the taste of my Protein shake. Go figure.

Good luck with the replacement. Cosmetic?

Hi Liz, good luck with all -- you are in my thoughts. Do you like Miso? Several kinds available (NYC, what am I thinking, I bet there are twenty+ within twenty minutes!).

I am with you on this one. For me it was Mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup with the noodles strained out. I lived on it during my pre op and again the 1 week following surgery.

It actually tastes good except it is very salty, I can no longer tolerate it. I have simply decided that I prefer my own homemade broths and Soups.< /p>

Like you I have removed all processed foods with the exception of Kraft Mac and cheese. I will occasionally make it for hubby and will eat a forkful just to see if it is still delicious. I have made it twice in one year. I used to make it at least once a week. LOL

I just noticed today (6 weeks post-op) that the chicken broth I have been drinking (pre and post op) tasted very salty today. I guess I need to start making my own broth too.

Any good recipes out that fellow sleevers?

I buy chicken thighs, rinse and drop into cold Water with chopped celery, onion and carrots. Boil 45-60 minutes, then pull the meat out to cool. If you're on full liquids, freeze the chicken in individual ziplock bags, then strain the vegetables out of the broth. Puree the vegetables, add some broth back in, and freeze for your puree/liquids phase. The remaining broth is good to go. I always salt at the table, so I don't have to worry about the variations in my tastebuds for salt. Also, if you have a separator, you might want to separate the fat out of the broth. It can be hard to digest right after surgery. You can add poultry seasoning when you start, or even urfa bieber (ground, smoked turkish peppers) to add a little flavor variety.

Totally. It looked like a golf ball under my skin. I can't see any change just now. The area is all swollen but once the swelling does go down, I should see the difference.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
