My Doctor faked my surgery!

Recommended Posts

Congrats, I've had symptoms and I'm going through a stall right now, but I would do it again in a second, why???? Because of many reasons, but the latest besides being able to get in a booth at any restaurant??? I went to buy new scrubs for work this week and got emotional, the girl asked me what size and I said 3x (I was a 7x), because I've lost a lot of weight, and i asked to let me try a 4x just in case, she gave me several 3x and refused to give me a 4x, then she said "you are a 2x, why are you getting 3x ?", I responded I probably was a 2x but didn't want to be disappointed, I bought all 3 scrubs(3x) they were loose, and the girl giggled And said "next time you come in if you buy the 2x I'll give you a discount ", so it's great that you had a smooth recovery, and remember you will have greater moments than that, way to go "Looser" keep it up !!!!!

I wish all posts could b light hearted and positive as yours was, some people take themselves way too serious , which is ironic if they remembered what they've been through......

No she's not...she explained herself...totally tongue-in-cheek

Actually she's complimenting her doctor! He obviously did a very good job or she wouldn't have posted...

Thank you and you hit it right on the nose. My surgeon did an excellent job. I was totally being sarcastic.

Ruh roh!

I'm working up a head of steam again about message board amateurs who start threads and then whine about what others post in response.

Honey no whinning here. I do jabe a problem when they are negative post just like your post. It's supposed to be a site where people support people not voice their negative unwarranted opinions about something trivial as a title. Bullies are everywhere.

I'm 5 months post op, lost lots of weight, feel great (constipation aside), had no hair loss.....It's WONDERFUL!! I feel like the posterchild of Sleeve surgery! In fact people I know have been inspired by my uneventful recovery, that they also have had the surgery! I should ask for a referral fee!!

tblovingme,

The signs of concern that you listed are pretty common, and very possible if you had the sleeve surgery. You started on the lighter end of the BMI scale for the gastric sleeve, so that could have helped make recovery easier, especially if you’re fairly healthy or in good shape.

If you’re seriously concerned that you were duped, your concern might get in the way of your weight loss if you don’t believe in yourself and your sleeve/stomach. You have a right to ask your doctor for proof. You could also, if you haven’t already, look at your doctor’s patients’ past results – are there a bunch of successful losers? If so, your doctor is probably doing actual surgeries.

What did I miss? Is someone being not so nice? Hope it's not me that is thought of as not so nice. I always try to be supportive, and share my experiences.

I was sleeved on Sept 10, 2015 ...well at least that's what I was told. I have the scars and even felt some discomfort in my stomach lacerations. 2 night hospital stay and all.

Here's why I'm questioning if surgery was done.

I had little to no pain after surgery. It felt more like discomfort. Lots of gas. I was able to walk and continue to walk every two hours while in the hospital no problem. Since my surgery I have not experienced ANY of the issues I have read about. I have been able to get 64 ounces of fluids in daily since my surgery. Protein shakes..no problem. Today I introduced meats. I was able to eat 3 ounces chewing 30 to 40 times of course during the course of 30 minutes. I was able to get in 3 ounces of sugar free pudding while still getting in my Water with absolutely no feeling of fullness or discomfort. Now. I do not plan to push it and do more than 2 servings of meat and 2 servings of shakes a day but I will slowly increase as time goes on.

So has anyone else experience symptom free after being sleeved or should I call my doctor and ask for proof she performed surgery???

believe me I also had a very easy recovery too!i had one incision thru my belly button.surgery on Monday up and out driving by Friday.hitting crs all weekend too!i had no problems getting liquids, soft foods or Water down.it was portions that I couldn't do.couple teaspoons here and there.you will suceed.consider us very thankful that we had no complications!!

I had the same problems. I was teasing my doctor about my surgery. I told him that he faked my surgery. He was trying a study. Make me believe I had surgery, to see if I could loose weight without the surgery... We laughed

I felt the same way when I was on liquids (I was on liquids for quite a while). I really started to wonder if he really did the surgery when I would never get full!

That all went away the first time I tried refried Beans and could only eat 3 spoonfuls :P

My husband has the sleeve of steel and had a completely different recovery process than I did. He could tolerate more foods at an earlier time and in greater volume than I could. I went to the ER following surgery for dehydration, he had no issues during recovery. Every person is different. Sounds like you're lucky.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
