Had my sleep study last week. I thought I slept great. They called today and told me I quit breathing 203 times during the night, 32x a minute. I'm mind blown! I never wake up and think "man, that was a good night of rest!" I always think "man I'm tired" but at least now I know why. I thought I was just a sleepy person! I had no idea I quit breathing. I have to go back now and do the test with a cpap on and I don't know if I'll have to use a cpap from here on out or just for surgery. But this just like is one more thing letting me know I'm making the right decision to have the surgery. I can't wait until I can be healthy and get a good night of rest and not wake up and feel exhausted. Anyone else have any sleep apnea stories or maybe you don't have it anymore since you lost your weight... I can't imagine sleeping with that Loud machine and mask on my face every night

Yes, I do my sleep study tomorrow and I know I have sleep apnea I wake up gasping some nights I hate it surgery hurry up please!

I do not have apena but my husband does. He had no success with a CPAP but the VA got him a mouth guard that slightly pulls his jaw forward and opens the airway. This works like a charm for him. I can tell by looking at him if he did not use it the night before.. Well I can usually tell that night because the snoring/gasping wakes me up..

I often wonder about the mouth guard. I can't get use to the cpap. I used it in the past and went about 8 years not using it and now trying it again since my surgeon requires the use at the hospital. I wear it about 4 hrs a night and then rip it off lol

The EGD is so easy! Don't worry - you will do just fine :-) I was super nervous about it. You literally fall asleep and the next thing you know you are waking up. I got a waiver on the need to wear a CPAP during surgery. I tested just one point over normal.

It is very much working for my husband. Look and see if your insurance will cover the mouth guard.

I have mild apnea they said.... it's really hard for me to sleep with it. I can get like 4 hours before I'm up and taking it off. I'm use to sleeping on my stomach and it's hard to do with that tube.

Just got diagnosed with sleep apnea today. How much does the CPAP trend to cost? With insurance?

I was diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea and got my CPAP about a week and a half ago. I hate it. My level is a 6 they say but I wake up feeling like its way too much. I wake up feeling exhausted. I go back in next week for my 2 week CPAP check. I use the pillows also. My surgery date is 9/9!! Getting excited!!

ok ya'll. My EGD was no big deal. I don't know why I was freaked out. It was actually kind of fun. I have never had any kind of anesthesia before, they said have a good nap and that's the last thing I remembered. I am glad to experience that because now I kind of know what surgery will be like. I have my 2nd sleep study this weekend, then a follow up with my Dr on Wednesday and I should be good to go to get my surgery scheduled. I can't wait! I am ready ready ready to get this over with. I am worried about the cost of the CPAP, is it like a monthly charge? Or a one time? I hope I wont need it for long, but am excited to get good rest.

9/9 will be here before you know it!!! good luck!

I had undiagnosed sleep apnea since childhood. Even at 48, I can still remember how tired I'd be - all day - in elem. school. My dad thought I was just lazy when I'd sleep 12 - 15 hours on the weekend.

For most of my 20's and 30's I'd been hovering around 250 lbs, at 45, I'd packed on an additional 100 lbs. And that extra weight must have been the tipping point for my apnea. It got to the point where I could not function at work because of my apnea and I was spending all my time at home sleeping. Finally, I went and had a sleep study and got a CPAP machine.

My sleep improve sooooo much after using the CPAP, it's hard to describe. After a few weeks, I could not sleep without the machine.

A 10 months post-op and 100 lbs less, I was able to stop using the CPAP. And have not used it since.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
