Is everyone out there on 2 week liquid diet post op?

Recommended Posts

Seems like every surgeon has his/her own version! Mine was:

1 day Clear Liquids

4 weeks full liquids (true liquids, not things like yogurt)

4 weeks purees

4 months soft food

And those are just the food consistency rules. There were a whole bunch of other rules about what kind of foods to eat, how much to eat, how often to eat, etc.

Really, though, everyone else's plan should be completely irrelevant to you. You should only care about your own plan.

My post-op diet was:

1st week clear liquids

2nd week full liquids

3rd week soft/puree foods

4th week full foods

But I wasn't able to progress that fast. Frankensleeve did not tolerate food too well. I lived on Cream of Mushroom Soup, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jell-O, and Peanut Butter for about 6 weeks. Then things got easier, but it took a long time (about 6 months) to fully transition back to full foods like vegetables, fruit, beef, chicken and eggs.

I just took it as it came and tried to look at it as a chance to stay away from calories I didn't need to be eating anyway. :-)

Mine is 4 weeks of liquids, 4 weeks of pureed Proteins only, 4 weeks of adding in some fruits and veggies, then released.

This is confusing to me to. I was told ten days liquid and then soft food but i was also told to try and eat chicken before my next visit which is in three weeks

For me, canned chicken was included in my soft food phase so it sounds like trying chicken in your third week is doable. Just make sure it's really moist and soft.

Yep.....seems like all surgeons are different. Mine is really relaxed on some things......like straws are fine with him.

However, he's on the strict side for eating.

10 days Clear liquids

10 days full liquids

2 weeks soft foods

Until I've lost ~ 75% of my excess weight, all foods I can tolerate, EXCEPT:

no starchy veggies

no bread, crackers, Beans, Pasta, rice, etc.

no fruit or sugar

no liquid calories (milk, juice) except Protein drinks as needed to make sure I get between 60-90 grams daily

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
