No preop diet yet... full liquid diet 3 days before and clear liquid diet 2 days before. So I start on the 4th with liquid diet. I actually like the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate splendor Protein, with a tablespoon of PB2, cup of fat free milk, and ice blended in ninja real good. Not bad tasting!!!

Hi Laceygoreell, I looked into the Unjury products after hearing so much about them and how amazing they taste only to find that it only holds 21 grams of Protein. My Nutritionist pointed out something in our Preop class that makes sense. Go for higher protein low carb powders for your shakes so that you ensure you are getting in the amount of protein you need daily. If you go for what taste great its gonna be less filling leaving you hungry or needing to drink more shakes for satisfaction. The higher the protein count the more likely you will be satisfied. Just thought I would share my tidbit and thanks for joining in on the thread. Good luck to you. I also started my pre op diet today. I am to drink Protein Shakes for 2 meals a day and lean protein and green yay me.

21, 23, 25 grams of protein per serving is about what you will find. if you see any powders that's more than that, its usually not the typical recommended quality protien

I'm scheduled to have my sleeve surgery on July 9th at 1:00pm. I am 5'9 and 269. My doc suggested I lose 5-10 lbs before surgery and the only pre op diet I have to follow is 2 Protein Shakes and Water the day before surgery. He did recommend that I focus on 3 meals a day eating fruits/veggies first, then Protein, dairy and starches last if I'm still hungry. I have to admit I'm incredibly nervous that I'm going to be in for a HUGE shock after surgery since I'm not having to follow a very strict pre op diet. I'm trying to mentally prepare as much as possible but I'm starting to think not being on a strict diet before surgery is setting me up for failure after surgery.

Hi anne.dalrymple,

We are sleeve twins yay! I am scheduled for July 9 at 9:00am. So excited and nervous at the same time. I get what you mean about the shock factor. I wish that was all I had to do. I think it's your BMI why he allows you to only pre op 1 day. I am on a two week 2 Protein Shakes and one small meal of lean meat and greens. The first two days I nearly died lol but I'm getting the hang of it now and looking forward to dinner. But other than that i am just praying for a speedy recovery and side affect free surgery and I will do b the same for you. Best wishes on your journey and let's keep in touch!

Every diet is specific to what dr. u are with, my pre op was 10 days of 2 Proteins, and small dinner, but it really prepares you for afterward, the biggest 3 things I can tell u since I am post op since june10th is

1,don't get discouraged, your body is used to eating a lot, eventually u adjust. And your new stomach size will help.

2, learn to sip now, it was a big problem for me, but if u start training your body and mind to sip it will get u ahead, I am at 50-60oz now.

3, right after surgery when you are alert enough walk walk walk walk............... As much as you can, you will feel so much better and even better the second day.

I was at 388lbs in January, 362.2 on my first Dr. visit in April, 346 on June 10th surgery, and Friday at my dr. Appt I was at 324.0, and 6 waist sizes down, put yourself and body into it and don't look back, wait for the small bumps in the road but don't sweat them, it gets much better. post-254362-14355460648755_thumb.jpg

Hi everybody! My surgery date is July 13th and I am starting a 2 week liquid diet tomorrow. My surgeon requires the New Directions products and it's only 4 products a day! I also have to lose at least 10 lbs or my surgery date might be moved but I'm confident I can do it. I'm nervous about the surgery but so excited to start this new chapter in my life!!

the only way you will fail after surgery is if you continue your old habits. i dont kno how long your qualification process was, but thats the time you take to get your mind right about eeeeeeverything. well at least thats what i did. trust me when i tell you, my love, even without a strict pre-op diet (i didnt have one), you wont be able to eat crazy...ur stomach is so small a tablespoon will hav you full. and that is no exaggeration. it sounds preposterous, i know. and it feels crazy too in the beginning. but when youre two years out, like me, and ur sleeve is STILL working...you will kno that failure was never an option. do not overeat! i repeat, do not overeat...it's so counterproductive. u will have a strict diet the first few weeks...and u will stick to it...afterwards, when youre on solids, now it's your time to shine. time to eat right with the occasional indulgence. you got this! piece of cake! pun intended ;) :D

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
