I had my surgery on the 10th also everything is fine except I cant seem to get 64oz of fluids down for the life of me Its too much then I feel bloated and my belly aches...and forget about food not happening just yet! I hope this part of the transition and that it will pass. In any case best of luck to all

Hi LynRey, I'm having problems getting enough liquid as well. My program does not do Protein Shakes or powder or anything like that either. It's Clear Liquids right after surgery and then modified liquids for two weeks. So, day 2 of modified and unable to get down more than a couple of licks off the spoon. They say only three "meals" a day with liquids in between. So now I'm thinking this is where my headache is coming from. My body is in starvation mode. I get light-headed, dizzy, and just feel like crud. They have been very clear that Protein shakes are a no-no so I'm unsure how to proceed at this point. I'm going to call the NUT tomorrow and hope for a remedy.

I will be interested in hearing back what your Nut's response is. Sounds a bit rough :(

Thanks for all the positive comments. My surgery is tomorrow. I'm so excited. I am worried about the nausea. I have told my family and told them I need their support and positive comments. Some disagree but are accepting it.

Hey don't worry bout the nausea , when you are coming out of it, just remember these words " walk as soon as you can" it shouldn't hurt as much as you think, I awaited til after my nite nurse was on duty and let me unhook from all the machines, the time I started to take off til I got back into bed was an amazing difference, I started to release gas, and the nausea was almost gone halfway through the nite, u did have a bad nite here at home yesterday, restlessness and nightmares attributed to the anesthesia and could go inn for up to a week, but walk walk walk

Walk walk walk!

I completely agree! I was up and walking in about 3 hours in the hospital. And at least every 3 hours after that. I was surprised that I actually felt better after that. Today is day 5, and I'm walking for about 15 minutes every few hours. I feel pretty good today. Had a few bites of yogurt for Breakfast and herbal tea. I am restless at night too. I hadn't thought about it from being from the anesthetic. Thanks for sharing that. Good luck greenbaymichk! You won't regret it

You'll do great Roseluv3, it's a small price to pay for a better life, it'll also make it that much easier to tolerate your post op diet, hydration is a great ally, or your enemy if you ignore it, learn to sip, not later but now, sip sip sip

Hello all, my surgery date is June 26th. My mind is in full panic mode, I know what I want and need but some little part of me is still uncertain. Maybe I should say scared. I go over the pros and con's and the sane me knows what's right, but I hate these feelings. I am on my two week clear liquid diet, which by the way bites! I will do what is right to avoid any problems. Thanks for letting me vent. Good luck to all..

I started my 2 week liquid diet on May 27 and that took me all the way up to surgery day 6/10,...I am five days out now and so far I think I'm doing very well. When I woke up in recovery there was pain of course, but I think the pain I don't know I think it was more or so the gas pain that I felt than the initial surgery pain. I was not hungry and it's really weird now it's like I don't feel that hunger anymore like I just I want to eat eat eat but now I don't. I think the gas is all gone now and I am still burping like I have gas but that's not necessarily the gas from the surgery it's more as the nurse practitioner told me today that would be from the food because I'm eating food now I am not on a clear liquid diet. Which is strange because all the reading and learning that I did all my education had said that I would be on a clear liquid diet after the surgery and I'm not now they have me eating mushy foods like scrambled eggs , fish, low fat cottage cheese, plain yogurt, and broth. And I am full after like 3 small spoons like 3 tsps. And drink drink drink your Water. Good luck to you all.

@@BariatricBarb, Yes, I have, and am wondering if it's either from lack of caffeine, or side effect of the meds they gave me, lack of neck support in surgery and in hospital. Tylenol didn't change my headache either...Mine ended up feeling like sinus pressure so I after I was able to take one tab of a sinus medicine it went away!! So sorry, hope you're disappears soon.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
