Thinking about Band to Sleeve Revision. I'd love your advice.

Recommended Posts

I feel like I've found my people! Had band in 2006 and lost about 95 lbs. I was happy with the band for a couple years, but then had couple years of misery. Had it removed in 2012 due to very severe esophagitis. In pain all the time. I gained all of the weight and then plenty more since removal. Have finally decided to have the sleeve. I have had the consult and getting surgery scheduled, etc. I put it off since all of this is self pay. I am nervous about some of the threads I've read with patients having severe GERD and vomiting. I can't go through all of that again. Are these very common side effects. I'm new to this board and gathering info before I take the plunge again.

Judyd, I also had my band removed due to esophagus issues, as mentioned in my previous post. I had band removal and sleeve in one surgery. My doctor warned me about the potential of getting acid reflux or GERD, vomiting etc. with the sleeve, however, my understanding was it was usually for a short period of time and did go away, however, there was a slight chance of it remaining with me for an adnormal amount of time. I remember him telling me that I may be on Prilosec for awhile. I took the chance and so far so good. Luckily, no issues with major reflux and the little I do have is not a big issue. What I like about the sleeve is that I know when I'm full and "full" is a word for a sleeved person. With lapband I had to measure everything I ate and it was touch and go after that. 6 weeks out and I know when to stop eating my meal - full is full! Lapband and Sleeve, for me, are two different worlds of WL surgery. Hope this helps to ease your concerns. I'd say "go for it" Much luck to you. Let us know when you get it done. jake

I liked the results I had from the band. Felt like a completely different person emotionally and physically. It just caused too many problems. I hope that I have the same results with the sleeve as I did with the band just without the complications!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
