I am self pay and having the VSG on Aug 12. My surgeon is doing the procedure outpatient at his surgery center and I will spend the night in a nearby hotel, since I live 90 minutes away. This helps me due to lower costs. Has anyone had it outpatient and what was your experience? I had the Lap Band in 2006 and it was removed in 2012 all by this same surgeon.

I'm self-pay so not too many hoops to jump through. Consent and labs visit 7/20, EGD 7/29 and surgery 8/12. Pre-op diet is 3 weeks liquid. I'm so excited!

I was going to ask this same question. Since I'm self-pay, my surgeon has the option of outpatient in his surgical center. I'm saving a good bit of money this way. I was a little leery, but this seems fairly routine. Thanks.

My insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery. I was trying (not very successfully) to ask, in regards to this thread, is one considered a revision of it's been 3 years since the removal and, therefore, possibly slower weight loss? Or is a revision when you have band removed and sleeve surgery at the same time?

I had really bad esophagitis at the end with the band. It had slipped and all that pain is the main reason I had it removed in 2012. My doctor told me since I haven't had GERD since removal that I am at no greater risk with the sleeve. I sure hope so!

I had my band taken out in 2012 and scheduled for the sleeve on Aug 12. So you think I still qualify as a revision? I've gained all that I lost with the band and then another 50 or so.

I feel like I've found my people! Had band in 2006 and lost about 95 lbs. I was happy with the band for a couple years, but then had couple years of misery. Had it removed in 2012 due to very severe esophagitis. In pain all the time. I gained all of the weight and then plenty more since removal. Have finally decided to have the sleeve. I have had the consult and getting surgery scheduled, etc. I put it off since all of this is self pay. I am nervous about some of the threads I've read with patients having severe GERD and vomiting. I can't go through all of that again. Are these very common side effects. I'm new to this board and gathering info before I take the plunge again.
