Hello everyone, I am writing from my hospital bed 1 day post-op. Yesterday was tough due to the effects of anesthesia. I really wasn't in much pain but nauseous and really tired. I literally slept all day. Just felt like I couldn't keep my eyes open. Was able to get a little walking in late last night once I was able to stay awake for a while. I second everyone's comments regarding walking. It really makes ALL the difference in getting the gas out. I'm feeling much better today. Just got back from my GI test and was told my pouch looked superb! Currently awaiting orders from my surgeon to begin liquids. Thanks for the well wishes from everyone and I will keep you posted!

I thought I would update you all. I had surgery yesterday around boo,. Everything went well. I had a hiatal hernia that was also repaired at the same time. At first all was going great. I got up and walked and was visiting with family until about 10pm. When they left I went to bed and had a rough night here in the hospital. I was in a lot of pain.vthete was a spot on my back that was killing me. I was upvptretty much every hour. Today I was hoping to home but my blood levels dropped and I can't get enough Fluid down yet. It's harder than it looks for sure. Hopefully I can go home tomorrow.

I am 3 days post-op and pooped this morning. Wasn't much but enough to help relieve some gas too. I've been walking a lot and the gas isn't too bad. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I'm feeling not too bad. My stomach is sore but that's expected. I gain a few pounds in the hospital but lost that last night. Now I am just trying yo get some Protein Shakes down and my Water. Little sips...I also exited for this journey to finally be here! Thanks for asking! How is everyone doing?

hi glad to hear all is going well. I came Home Sunday. Last night was the best night of sleep I have had. Rough day today. Allergic reaction to my nexium. Broke out, eyes lips swolled up & burning itching hands & feet. It was the most scariest and horrible feeling since surgery. I paged my resident on call he told me to get benadryl which I'm taking now. Its ups and downs but totally worth it. I've had worse being obese. Glad to read your update!

How long after surgery until you can poop? This bloated feeling is miserable!!

I was two days post op. Diarreah all day but it did come!

Checking in here ladies - I had my Roux En Y yesterday and it was by far the most difficult day of my life. My pain was manageable, but I was nauseous all day and night. Up nearly every hour walking. Had my leak test this morning and passed, so I was switched to Water. Was told I could have four, one ounce med cups per hour, got one ounce down and was nauseous again, so was moved back to ice chips. Then about noon today, I developed diarrhea which is not fun when you are trying to get gas out. That passed and now I am resting pretty comfortably, planning to go home tomorrow but not looking forward to the hour drive.

congrats it gets better everyday. I am 5 days post op. You can ask for something to help with the nausea. I had a patch given to me by anesthesia the day before it helped but I was still nauseated a Lil too much to walk after surgery right away. The nurse injected some meds in my I.V. took it right away. (Too late now, but someone else reading it might benefit). Hang in there you are doing well. Its hard in the beginning but I am feeling better each day. Just walk when you can, a little helps and don't push or over do yourself. Your body is using a lot of energy to heal itself. Drink, drink drink. So happy you are on the other side... Its an awesome accomplishment!!!

I am 1 day post op. I have no gas yet and I've been walking. No nausea from my drinks either. I'm starting to wonder if I'm a freak because the pain is very minimal too!

lol, no you are doing well everyone don't have the same issues. My Surgeon told me to stay off of the blogs long before I had my surgery because of hearing about other people's issues thinking or expecting it to happen to me. You may have a totally different journey. Thankful that you are doing well. Keep up the awesome & positive work!!

hello! 2nd day post op, feelin fine. gas is annoying but manageable. i agree with pp, it's so crazy how different each journey is. i was expecting this and this and that but that's not been my experience so far. even my post op diet is soooo different from what I've read for others.

but i am so glad to be on this side. i was holding my baby girl and i just got so excited thinking about the things I'll be able to do with her in a smaller body. what a gift.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
