My surgery is first thing in the morning tomorrow. I have to be there at 5:30am! Nervous and exited! I've been told to expect at least 1 night probably 2 in the hospital.

How funny I had the 5:30 check in too

Hi,

My name is Haley I am 27 years old, and I decided to make the life changing decision to have the Sleeve Gastrectomy. My surgery is on July 28th 2015, I thought I would create a Facebook group, for others to join. Having a group on facebook, I have found is more active than, bariatric pal. I wanted to create a group that is versatile and inclusive to everyone. I want people to feel welcomed and feel like they can really get some on going support. Facebook these days is so popular, that I can only assume 90% of bariatric pal members have one. With all that being said, I would love for you to join the facebook group I created. The group is for all bariatric people, anyone can join. I will say a lot of people are having surgery this summer, and it seems July is the month. So there will be a lot of Pre-op patients in this group. If you have already had bariatric surgery, the group would love to hear about your experience. All you have to do, to join is ad me as a friend on facebook, I will ad you to the group. It’s a private group on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/S.E.T.B.ME

Can you add me too to the group? Surgery is Tuesday..

Just sleeved on July 8th. 1st week of postop is almost over. Looking forward to advancing my

diet to soft/pureed foods. Just feel like I wanna chew something..struggling with boredom from sitting around recovering. Next week will be better and the one after that. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and see how things unfold.

Just got sleeved this morning! Everything went great and I feel great! Really tired but not in much pain at all I don't know what everyone was talking about. But coughing and walking to bathroom almost killed me. No nausea no drain tube no catheter and no gas pain!

Hello all, my name is Carroll and I was newly sleeved July 2nd. I hope some of you can share your experiences with me as we journey together. My biggest fear is that I will stretch my stomach but my nutritionist says there is no way right now because I'm on pureed food for a month. Other than that I feel fine. I am disappointed that I feel hunger and its kinda painful. I also am having a hard time with Water. It doesn't taste as good as it used to. Any ideas would be appreciated and I'm happy to share what I know so far also.

Have you tried infusing your Water at all? Lemon or cucumber or both? That can give it a little flavor without anything fake. Just add lemon and/or cucumber slices to a your Water at night let it sit in the fridge, then you have something crisp and delicious to sip on all day the next day.

Hello! Was it very painful? I'm so sorry you are hungry- I was hoping that would stop as well!! I love drinking infused water.... Watermelon slices - with our without cucumber. Oranges slices w blueberries. Lemon, limes, oranges. Strawberries and basil (I know crazy). Blackberries and lime. There are so many to do! Look on Pinterest on infused Water. That's where I get my ideas. I get sleeved the 29th (hopefully if insurance gives me final approval). It's so hard to get 64 oz h20 in w my big old stomach now I bet it's soooo hard! Good luck! And let me know what your daily meals are so I can get some ideas. Thanks :)

The first couple of days i was in pain and thankfully they hooked me up to a PCA pump (patient controlled administration). Every 8 minutes I could press the button without waiting on the nurse. Unfortunately the next day they put me on crushed oral pain pills. I then felt all the pain even from laying on the operating table so long. Once I got home I felt better. Hospital beds are not comfortable. I haven't threw up but have had nausea. I'm going to try the infused Water. :)

I started a SECRET Facebook Group (closed, nobody can see you are there) For July 2015 people only. I hope this can expand as a individualized community so we can help each other out through the same stages of this journey. I hope you can join. (1) The only way to join is to send email invites, not a link. You will need to private-message me your email address, the one linked to your FaceBook profile. An email invitation for the FaceBook group will be sent to you.

I hope you are doing well, and hope to see you soon!

How many days were you in hospital? Were you in or a long time?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
