My surgery is first thing in the morning tomorrow. I have to be there at 5:30am! Nervous and exited! I've been told to expect at least 1 night probably 2 in the hospital.

I'm only the second out patient procedure my doctor has done- the first one was my mom, so since I knew the inside scoop and I'm paying for it myself I asked for it

I'm only just shy of a day out from surgery and still in the hospital so I'm not sure I can comfort you much. I actually feel pretty good. I haven't had to push my Diluadid button much. The most pain I've had is from the gas but this morning (it's 4am) my stomach is much less distended and even though I haven't had a BM yet I am feeling much better. (Exciting TMI moment for me: I just barely farted for the first time and it was A-mazing! LOL) I also have a really bad Migraine but I get those normally anyway and we're working on fixing it. I have just barely started keeping ice chips down. Yesterday I threw even a couple pieces of ice up everytime. My mouth is very dry and it's annoying but I keep at it. My nurse said I could chew on gum but upon looking in my purse I realized I had none. So, husband will be bringing some when he gets here after dropping the kids off at daycare. I think that'll help a lot. So, you're right you won't be drinking for a bit, but really in the whole scheme of things it was very minor and plus yes you are hooked up to the IV.

As for the drain coming out of you - that is Dr specific I've noticed. My doc said only his RNY and DS patients had drains. I don't have one but to tell you the truth it probably would've been better than just dripping from the big hole where they removed my stomach. I had quite a lot of Fluid come out yesterday and got me wet enough to change my gown and bedding. They put a gauze pad over it and it's been ok now though. A drain isn't too bad though - I've had them with previous surgeries - and its no big deal, in my opinion.

Lastly, I don't feel like I just got hit by a bus. I feel like I just had another c/section or my hysterectomy. The pain from the gas yesterday was annoying but the pain meds helped knock me out so I didn't care. I got all 4 of my walks in and that really did help. So far I am not having second thoughts. I can tell you I did start freaking out the day before surgery but this isn't so bad... yet. ;) LOL Hang in there! You can do this!

Having a drain sounds much worse than it actually is. I had one when I had a bunch of my lymph nodes removed and the Dr just removed it a day or two later when I'm went in to a check up. I didn't know it was there until he was taking it out. I don't think it hurts anymore than a regular incision. I was just told at the time that it would relieve some pressure and natural Fluid while it was healing. Yum. Lol

I'm getting my surgery July 11 in Mexico. My dr wants me to do a 5 day pre-op but I'm adding a few days to that and starting tomorrow (I'm a little hard on my liver).

It feels like my surgery date it so close but so far away! I'm so excited!

I had my surgery on the 30th and was able to come home that day with this new 72 hour pain pill my surgeon put inside me, so now that it is starting to wear off in getting the real deal. It's still not as bad as I was expecting but I am a lot more puny today.

I slept through the night perfectly! Which was so nice because I didn't the night before. I've been able to keep down Water, Vitamin Water, and chicken broth. I'm still taking my nausea medicine- just as a precaution. And I'm still doing pain medicine every 4 hours during the day since I'm active.

With just a little incision pain/soreness - I've been able to walk a mile on the 30th and 2 miles yesterday which really really really helps get rid of the gas. (To add on to whoever was talking about the small farts- they get bigger and better to give you something to look forward to hahaha ????)

I just was scheduled for surgery. I have July 15th. I have to do a 10 day pre-op diet so the 4th is my last day to eat whatever. I'm really excited this process moved so fast for me.

Omgosh! Thank you for your insight and I do hope you are feeling better or at least in the way to feeling better. I am wondering can you/we do mints? Instead of gum?

Also when do you get to drink Water? My surgery is scheduled @ 7am first one of the morning :)

I'm wondering if I will be asked to wait til 7am the next day to get fluids.

I am feeling much better. As for the gum vs mints... they said no to mints because that is actually swallowed. The gum isn't and the main idea was just to wet my mouth since the ice chips were making me vomit.

I too was the first surgery at 730am and I wasn't able to drink actual Water until today. Yesterday was just ice chips until I tolerated them long enough. I'm sure had I tolerated those though they would've let me drink a little water. Believe me though, I have no desire whatsoever for fluids other than to wet my mouth. The IV has me completely covered on that front. Try not to worry! It really is not bad at all!

And yes @@bnm4, it's funny how farting makes us happy now when they get bigger! LMAO!! I am counting everyone since its something funny to me that makes me feel better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
