Hello...new to the this too. I'm on my pre-op diet having 2 shakes a day and I have bars as well. I lost almost 9 lbs. already. I have never lost this much in a week ever! So, it makes it exciting and my band date is April 28th. I have never had any type of surgery before so I am kind of nervous too.

Hi Sweet,

Welcome to our post. Great on the weight loss, happy to hear that. I too lost around 21 pounds, but haven't seen that on the scale yet......surgery was Thursday and I'm having trouble on the potty, with the rear components! Soon, I'm sure. Also bloating from the gas used in surgery and swelling from surgery.

Operation was quite successful and pain free as long as they kept giving me the pain meds. Took them up until today, am just using Tylenol now and it seems to be working.

Good luck, just 1 more week and 2 days, hang in there with that diet.

Peggy

4days post LB and all is going well! Was banded 4/16, last Thursday. Surgery went well and I spent the night at the hospital. Only issue was my back was killing me from the bed!! Was walking within hours and walked often.

In the morning they did a brief upper GI and all was cleared for me to eat. It was educational watching on the TV my swallow and how it passes the band. I now understand the eat slowly!!

I had clears that day then transitioned to full liquids on Friday. I've done very well with this except I did mess up and at 8 oz of Soup in 30 min and I think that was way too much! I suffered with severe waves of gas pains and bloating. Since then I've been only eating 3-4 oz at a time and this has worked very well!

I did pull an abdominal muscle the first night getting out of bed and that has continued to bother me. No other pain. :)

Glad to be on this journey!

Hi everyone,

I thought I would check in. I'm deep into my pre-op diet and have lost 14lbs so far which is amazing. To say that the pre-op diet is easy, would be a lie. For me, I've found that it's been hard in many different ways... especially emotionally, because I've found that I've been an emotional eater. It really tests your willpower, but it does go to show what you accomplish when you really try.

I just had my final checkup with my doctor yesterday to make sure my blood pressure and everything was still good and everything is exactly where it should be. My surgery is on the 29th, the date is creeping closer and I'm getting nervous.

That being said, does anyone have any suggestions for what they plan on bringing with them to their surgery / things they have bought for the "recovery" days to follow afterwards?

Hope everything is good and @@kwcrnp, glad to hear that your surgery went well!

PS; does anyone know I get one of those weight tracker things that some people have at the bottom of their posts?

@@InkedLexeme Great job sticking to the pre-op diet! I took my Ipad and nook to the hospital and didnt use them at all. I took a toothbrush and tooth paste but forgot my Shampoo ect and had to use the hospitals when I got a shower. So I recommend comfy PJ's, personal care items and phone with charger.

I see you the weight tracker.....how?

Hang in there! Its scary to go through surgery but every single day after you feel better and better! I made 4 oz of cream of wheat and felt full after 3 oz! It's an empowering feeling to have control of your intake! So far I don't regret this surgery at all!

@@kwcrnp How has the pain been for you? Any tightness in the stomach or difficulties with bending over?

As for the weight tracker, if you go to the top right hand side of the page near where you log out, you will see where it says "Hello kwcrnp" and there will be a little wheel there. Click on the wheel, and go to the options that it has. From there, you will see "my ticker" on the left hand side. Go there, and you can customize a ticker and have the option to add it to your signature. =)

If any of you guys have pinterest, I have found it so useful for information about the lap-band and even more useful for post surgery recipes and lots of goodies. I would recommend going there if you need some food inspiration. =)

Hi Inked,

No, not too much pain bending over, some discomfort, but all is well with me too. Kristi and I had our surgery the same day. You will be fine.

@InkedLexeme. The first night getting out of bed I pulled/injured a muscle on the right sight side of my belly button...that is the only thing causing me pain. Hurts to sit up, bend far over and lift my right leg up. I was able to shave my legs today though ????

No discomfort from the incisions or the port.

@@kwcrnp I ordered the Genepro; thanks for that......I don't do shakes anymore (maybe once in a while as a treat) because they don't hold me but I am mixing the Protein into my yogurt with other little mix-ins (otherwise, like shakes, it's a slider for me).... Sure jacks the protein up!

@@Bandista the GENEPRO works great! Pre surgery I would mix one scoop into my morning coffee, sprinkle in while stirring, and it dissolves right in! 30 Gm Protein with morning coffee is awesome! It would hold me for hours.

Now I'm mixing half a scoop with my cream of wheats and yogurt. Eventually when I have my coffee again I will go back to my morning mix :)

Hi all,

I thought I would update everyone and let you all know that yesterday, I had my lap-band surgery at The Plastic Surgery Centre (as part of the SmartShape Weightloss Centre) in Mississauga, Ontario. My Doctor was Dr. Chris Cobourn and he did an amazing job. All of the stuff were very kind, sweet, understanding and very relaxing which is what I needed because I was so nervous. I came out of the anaesthesia farely quickly and wasn't overly groggy. When I awoke after a nap yesterday, I was in a lot of pain because all of the pain meds had worn off, but once I got some more into me, I was good.

Since then, I haven't been in much pain. I of course am very tender and stiff, but that's to be expected. I have no bruising, no shoulder pain and have been able to sleep decently. Not the best, but decently. I feel that I will be able to sleep better once I get back to the comfort of my home and my bed tomorrow.

I'm on my clear liquid diet now, so I'm mainly just drinking Water and chicken broth. And the broth is amazing after so many weeks of Protein shakes and veggies. Tomorrow, I can start on my full liquid diet, so I'm excited to get some nice creamed Soup and even go back to my Protein Shakes. I'll be on the full liquid diet for a week and then I'll be on pureed foods, which will be nice seeing as my birthday is on May 9th. I'll have a little bit more variety.

I thought I would give everyone a head's up as to how things are going for me, and if you have any questions, let me know!

Xo

Rachel

Great to hear to have joined us! Walk, walk and walk! I started puréed and it's wonderful to chew some! Congrats!

I returned to work today....feeling good except that stomach muscle I pulled the day of surgery still lets me know it's there! Down 6 lbs in 2 weeks, not bad since there is minimal restriction at this point.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
