My story is new gossip:(

Yeah I know the feeling but don't focus on how many people know. Someone will always have something to say. Wether your big or skinny it's always going to be something. Try to ignore it and not let it get to you. You've made it this far. Wait until you lose your first 100 then everyone will really know ????

I've told most every one I know and other than a few people have gotten positive feed back. I did get some family members who were worried that I wouldn't be able to enjoy eating with family again at Thanksgiving or at reunions. They were wrong.

When people ask "what is your secret" I tell them "I don't have one!" After a year, I really don't feel the need to review my weight loss history with everyone. I am so ready to move forward to a new city, job and life.

Another reason for me to keep my trap shut! At least now you know what a snake your SIL is. Don't worry about her. Do you. Live your life!

I'm not planning on telling anyone at all. I can always tell later if I choose but once you tell you can't take it back!

By the way, any suggestions on a reason I'm out of the office for a week? Not a vacation - taking one of those at Christmas. ;)

I like that! I could say, "I finally just started eating less and exercising like I always knew but never did."

I've been telling some people who don't need to know that I hernia repair (which I did). It's been easier to tell folks after the fact for me though. Because then they can't really make judgements. I've already had the surgery! Most people I thought would not be supportive have been very supportive. It's been odd.

I only tell people who could use the surgery themselves. Everyone else get's "moved more, ate less" when they ask, how did you lose weight, which is true.

But for new year's eve I posted this on FB

And then on Jan 1 posted this
Just a reminder some years you can accomplish your goals

I guess the OP never updated the thread with how things resolved.

That is tough when your own family doesn't support your efforts to get healthy.

She reacted exactly the way I knew she would. Judge judge judge!

The good news is that you have confirmed what you have long known: That your sister-in-law is a jerk. Her dismay at not havng been told from the beginning is not because of familial concern for your well-beng, but for the gossip value. A decent person would not say, "....you shouldn't have told me," but rather "I should have asked first." Now you know not to confide in her again.

The bad news is that you have confirmed what you have long known: That she would "Judge judge judge!" You had a hand in this, but now you know not to confide in her again. Think of who else you might want to share with and know will be happy for you and respect your wishes.

Since you'd kept the surgery a secret, what have you told people when they've asked about your weight loss? When people who, like you, chose to keep secrets but didn't know how to handle questions, I've recommended the truth: "I changed the way I eat and I started to exercise."

I tell whoever I want to tell and if they tell someone else oh well. I don't care what people think. It's my life. I know that I have struggled for years with yo yo dieting. I did everything with no success, so it's time for me to succeed. Let them say what they want. Your sister in law may be scared that you'll look much better than her. Jealousy isn't pretty.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
