Some doctors do routinely, others do not. I did not have one. From what I have read those who do have them, they are normally removed within a few days. I would suggest asking your surgeon what his protocol is.

I agree with Samuelsmom. I, too, did not have one. I had my surgery in Hartford, CT. All my friend's who have had the surgery also did not receive a drain. What I can tell you is that some of us have 5 scars whereas I only have 4. I was told I prepped very well.

So talk with your surgeon and he/she will give you all the answers you need before the surgery.

I went home with a drain and it came out about 7 days after my surgery. It made me really sad, as my surgeon originally told me that most Sleeves do not get drains, so I immediately thought something didn't go right. My favorite nurse I had explained that a drain actually helps aid in the healing process and forces that excess Fluid out, plus it was nice to be able to monitor what was going on in there by the color of the fluid coming out.

I was sleeved 11-4 and did have a drain until 11-6 when I was discharged from the hospital. All has been fine and wounds healed

Agreed, speak with the surgeon all are different. I didn't have a drain or a catheter and I only had one incision in my belly button.

@gabby_megs thanks for the info......I was wondering about the drain thing too.

I was sleeved on Oct 27 2014 and didn't have a drain either. When I started seeing people asking about drains I was wondering why some do and some don't?

I had a drain for two weeks after surgery. I complained about it but my doctor said it was necessary in case there was a leak or a Fluid build up. He's ultra-cautious though.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
