Vegetables after weight loss surgery

My typical base is either Isopure unflavored whey or on occasion CVS vanilla whey with sunfiber plus half to whole cup of Fage 0% Greek yogurt. I then add fruit, cacao powder or nut butter to taste. I almost always use Water to mix and loads of ice. I drink half before my 9am water aerobics class & half after. I end up with 30 - 40 gms of Protein before noon.

Isopure makes a Protein Water that is 40g, that's what I use.

I love sushi too but I think I will skip the rice part of it . I am not remotely interested in being a vegetarian I cant stand kale or quinoa. I prefer the Pure Protein chocolate shakes first thing in the morning. 35 grams of Protein. My NUT told me to avoid the whey protein so I don't bother with it. I don't like anything raw and since my stomach is still suffering with this reflux, I wont risk it with raw food. I will be trying asparagus and cauliflower today so I will see how it goes.

Not sure why your nut would tell you to stay away from whey. It's only the most complete and fastest absorbed form of protein out there. It's better and easier absorbed than milk concentrate, casein, beef, fish, chicken, eggs, and any plant-based protein, including soy. Did she say why?

As for vegetables-at 4 weeks i could do really soft cauliflower. Then I tried broccoli which tasted SO AMAZING, I had a second bite(s), maybe 2 small florets and it all came back up immediately. I think if I'd kept to just a few florets to begin with I would have been fine.

At 6 weeks I can eat 1/4 cup over steamed broccoli and it is so good. I also eat my protein earlier just because eating a mushed vegetable is such a treat! (Can't believe I'm writing that.) I can't wait for some raw vegetables but I'm told I am a long way out from doing that, a month or more before I'll try it.

FYI-I use one of those microwave ceramic cookers. It's small and is perfect for just a few steamed vegetables and chicken is very moist in it.

The Protein powder and shakes I drink are working for me so I will stick with those. Clearly everyone has been advised differently and that's understandable. Tried cauliflower just a small amount and it was fine nothing came back up. I still wont eat any veggies raw though.

I was able to eat raw veg by 6 weeks. I started slow, a little romaine or fresh spinach with some egg salad. I missed salads and even though I eat much smaller ones than I previously did, I now have them several times a week. I have been fortunate enough not to have had any problems with any foods so far.

Does not make sense that rice would cause intestinal blockage. What I think it is it takes up too much room for the nutritional value. BTW, for the 10 years with a lapband, a spoonful of rice would make me vomit, even when I had no Fluid. Never had a problem with sleeve - I simply choose to minimize it for carb reasons. :)

I am unclear how far out you are, but just slowly, gently start adding veggies. Cooked ones are easier to digest so that might be a good place to start. My main dietary focus was during weight loss phase, and remains even now - Protein and veggies... with anything else AFTER that.

@CowgirlJane I may not have been clear on what I meant. Because we can have problems with Constipation after this surgery I was told to be careful eating anything with Fiber cause if I have constipation then Fiber could cause a blockage. Rice was always like fiber for me before even though I like it I think it will be too thick to eat. I am 9 weeks post op so far I can eat Bok Choy in Soup, cauliflower, shallots, artichoke hearts and mushrooms.

Almost 4 weeks post op. This week I've been craving celery with Peanut Butter but I don't have any celery. I'm going to buy some when I go grocery shopping later in the week

I can eat rice without a problem. Not a whole lot of it but several bites here and there is fine. Vegetables no issue either. For some reason salad doesn't sit as well as cooked vegetables. Since getting the sleeve I've developed a taste for things I never really liked before. Asparagus is now my favorite. Brussel sprouts etc. I love em. Corn tends to be too filling so I only have a couple of bites. The only thing that ever really expands inside my stomach is soft bread.

By no means am I criticizing anyone but I notice some of the foods that are being added back to some peoples diet are basic diet No-no°s. At such a early stage of post op honeymoon. I say this because I myself wish I ramped up my weight loss during that time because it really does slow down. The only thing that keeps me going are the good habits I have incorporated. So just a reminder that corn, rice, bread etc...need I say more?

Fiber typically doesn't cause Constipation. It actually helps with BM's. Fiber is what constipation aides like ducolax and benefiber are made of. Getting it from veg just means you may not need to use those things. Raw veg may be challenging for dome because the body has to break them and that may be difficult if you are used to eating a lot of raw veg or have a still healing belly. Fiber and plenty of fluids is actually a good way to not get constipated.

As soon as I could eat purees, I started with steamed veggies like green Beans and carrots. I love cauliflower and broccoli, but could not tolerate them or any raw fruit or veggie until six months, including salad greens. I could eat tpmatoes early on. Potatoes are still hard to tolerate at 14 months. Even a small amount just sits like a brick. Miss Tummy punishes me for hours when I eat starchy foods like bread, rice, noodles, crackers, etc.. My favorite fruit is banana, but I can only tolerate a couple of bites. I can enjoy berries and apples frequently. 1/2 an apple a day helps prevent Constipation.< /p>

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
