So what do you do about pants?

Recommended Posts

This is going to seem like a silly question. I am exactly one week post surgery and down 11 lbs, 16 from when I came home from the hospital (man do they pump you full of fluids), and I was trying to get dressed today, and I thought...hmm, what am I going to do about pants. I was already at the bottom of my size range, and I've been running around pulling my pants up for about a month. I've been hesitating to buy pants because I though I'd just drop a size in March and get a couple pairs, but, realistically, I could go down two sizes by he end of March, cause I should already be one size down. I own my own business and feel like I have to dress nice and set a good example for my employees, but there's no way I can keep up with my changing pant size. It takes long enough to find a decent fitting pair of pants. I don't know how I'm going to have the time to try on all these pants.

Goodwill retail stores ($5.99 per pair of jeans in north Florida) and I pulled out my sewing machine. I just keep taking in the back seam of my pants. Sometimes twice in a week. I have also invested in a couple pair of yoga pants. They are stretchy and don't fall down......plus they look pretty good 50 lbs thinner than when I had surgery in November 2014. I wear them with long sweaters. And I've bought a few pair in Walmart for less than $10. They will work for casual, probably not too well if you work.

I've just been thrift store shopping. I can't afford buying new clothes all the time, so I started buying clothes from places like Goodwill and the Salvation Army before I had surgery. Not a lot, but enough to get by. Some sizes I've only worn for a couple of weeks before dropping to the next size, so I may only have one or two pairs of pants in any particular size, I just do laundry a lot. Once I get to goal, I'll buy new clothes. :)

I did a bit of sleuthing and calling around - then visiting - until I found a good consignment shop that sold BOTH plus sizes and regular sizes of nicer clothes. I too need to dress professionally, and it was great to turn in an armload of clothes from good designers and upper end brands, and then turn and shop the Eileen Fisher rack or similar! It's a bit farther than my small town, but a few minutes extra drive makes it a fun excursion too.

Good luck, and Congrats on needing smaller things!

I went to thrift shops also recruited some family for hand me downs and bought yoga pants that were tight so I could grow into them and they fit a while longer than others I had tried

I've been buying things on sale. Picked up a couple of pairs of jeans for five bucks this week, and even if I only get to wear them once, I'll feel like I have my money's worth. I've also bought a few pairs of work pants, but they weren't as cheap. I will also try thrift stores when I need to, but haven't yet.

I agree. ^^^ Just shop and get new stuff unless there is a financial limitation. I shopped the whole entire time I was loosing, thrilled to try on newer smaller clothes and to walk into store like banana Republic that had previously never existed in my world. Stick to sales and clearance and then take to consignment or donate them since you will have the receipts. Just a few of my gazillion dressing room shots from that time. It was surreal.[post-161802-14250138571951_thumb.jpgattachment=51842:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1425013689.495788.jpg]post-161802-14250139226435_thumb.jpg

Thanks, all. I think there is a decent consignment/resale shop near one of the restaurants. I'm just so used to buying things online, trying them on in my office and sending back what I don't like. It was easy because I knew my size in the brands I liked

Goodwill was and is my lifesaver. Try buying several pairs of pants , then turn them into your local consignment store when you outgrow them. You'll get back at least what you paid for them, possibly more. I haveca very nice wardrobe, 90 % from Goodwill and other thrift store s. Good luck !

Most individuals go to Goodwill or thrift shops for clothing after surgery because their body is shrinking very quickly. I like to shop and can generally buy clothes for about 70 percent off retail on sale. So I took the approach of buying a few new clothes as I lost weight. I would generally buy an article of clothing that would barely fit. A week later it would fit like a glove. It was a great motivator. I went from a size 46 in pants down to a size 33 and from a size 3X in shirts down to a size small. Clothing was one of the fun parts of weight loss surgery. When I finally bottomed out, I replaced my entire wardrobe with some of the latest fashions.

What about wearing more skirts instead for a while? if you can find some with an elastic waist it seems they would fit longer than pants would. They would also be easier to adjust than pants, i'd think.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
