Goal weights? And photos for "shorties?!"

I enjoyed the posts for persons who are around 5'5" and would love to see responses from the shorter crowd! I am 5', in the morning. I have been heavy so long I have lost perspective on what I should weigh and what it looks like!!!

Good things come in small packages ????

On a good day I'm 5'. Like you I've been fat for a very long time. My surgeon didn't give me a goal. I'm 8 weeks out and at my last visit I asked her for her thought on what I should aim for. She said for my height I should be around 110 but at 62 years old that isn't realistic. Based on the average sleeve loss, she felt I could reasonable make 165. Interestingly that is almost exactly what my endocrinologist said.

So I'm using 165 as my goal. I can always reassess later. Just being in onderland will be a thrill!

Wow...I am 5'2" and 165 would be wayyyyyy to heavy for me. I am shooting for 128. My best weight as an adult and I defy anyone to say I cannot get there because of my age. That is bull....maybe 110 is too low...but I hope to be between 123-128 and I am 63 year old.

I am 5 2 1/2. I would like to be around 130 lbs, however if I get anywhere around 150 or below I will be pleased. My surgeon never set a goal for me but he did say they figure you can expect to lose 65% of your pre-surgery weight. That would be a big disappointment.

Hi - I'm not quite 5'1" and age 56. I never got a goal weight, so I decided on 115. However, my personal trainer says that is way too low for someone who's working out as much as me. I looked up some articles today on body fat % and some experts say that is a more important number. I pulled this off of healthstatus.com: "For women between age 20 and 40, 19% to 26% body fat is generally good to excellent. For women age 40+ to 60+, 23% to 30% is considered good to excellent."

I now weight 180 and am starting to think that 115 will look too thin. However, I'm not going to revise my goal until I'm in the 130's and then I'll see where I'm at. I have always been obese. Was 150 lbs in sixth grade and have been as high as 316, so I really have no point of reference.

My surgeon told me when I ask to take it "as it comes." My body will tell me....that probably I will go lower than I expected and then have a 3-5 pound rebound...then plateau. It is at the point of the plateau that I will know. I know from remembering how I looked and felt that 125-128 feels very good to me....esp. when I am working out a lot which will be what I am doing. I thought it was good advice.

65% of pre-surgery weight is standard and how my surgeon arrived at 165 as a weight to shoot for. Of course, most people want to lose more. But that is the average.

Twice as an adult I got down to 135 but I couldn't maintain it. My objective is really less a particular number on the scale. I'd like to resolve the medical issues I have and find a healthy weight I can maintain.

In the end I think my sleeve will let me know where my weight is going to settle. ????

I had, or have, big dream of 117, but that allows for cushion. I have not figured yet what the weight and bmi number is to be in normal category. I was hoping to see pics for comparison but, should post a pic of my own to start! Tomorrow!!!

I'm 5'3" and now weigh 121, down from 244. I am not extremely thin now. I think strangers probably see my current size as unremarkable. My surgeon's goal was 135 and my own original goal was 125. I'm hoping to reach 119 so that when I increase my calories in maintenance, I'll have some bounce room.

Edited to add: I'm 61 years old and exercise only lightly.

Congratulations! That's fabulous ????

Do you have much hanging skin? Any idea how many pounds this would account for?

I think I'm going to look like a deflated balloon the lower I get. This really is ok with me since my goal is is health not appearance. I'm wondering though how many pounds of "skin" I'll be left with.

@@Debbie Jean, my pannus and abdomen both have flat tires. I would guess I have about 3 pounds of loose skin just on my midsection. And probably another 1/2 to 1 lb on my arms, combined. I'm only guessing though. I don't have a guess for the thighs and butt.

Thanks for sharing your experience ????

I don't see myself doing any plastics and figure I'll just use compression garments underneath when I reach that stage.

Love this post because this is exactly what I am going thru right now. I am 5 1 1/2 and I am at 125 lbs. My husband and true friends think I am good where I am at and don' t need to lose more but my surgeon and I picked 115 when I started this journey. (I m very muscular) Maybe 120 would be more realistic and give me a 5 lbs spread. but love seeing what everyone else is thinking. I have an apt on 2/24 and I am over 45 years old.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
