Got banded in Springfield MO??

Recommended Posts

I like the Jay Robb, but you have to order on-line. I like the unflavored whey Protein Powder or the vanilla. For example, I use one package or one scoop of the vanilla, add 8 oz. of lactose-free milk (or regular if you can drink it,) 3 or 4 ice cubes, and 1/2 cup frozen peaches. It taste just like a peach milkshake! Of course, I have not been banded yet, so after surgery I will probably have to revise the recipe. With the vanilla you can add any frozen or fresh fruit you like. Wiith the chocolate I like a banana or strawberries. Okay, now I am hungry.

Dr. Edwards through St. John's is the only doctor who does bariatric surgery in Springfield. I have a friend who's insurance is through Cox but they are allowing her to have her surgery through Dr. Edwards since they do not offer barriatric surgery at this time.

I have cox insurance also, but my policy has an exclusion for WLS. I am using Dr. Edwards. He is the only one in Springfield as far as I know.

At one time (or maybe even now) there was a Dr. who would periodically come to Cox from Overland Park, KS to perform bariatric surgeries. I'm sorry I don't recall his name, but I would think you could call Cox and find out about it.

I can, without a second's hesitation, recommend Dr. Chris Edwards and his staff if that's what your ultimate option turns out to be. Please keep us informed about your progress with this, okay? If you have any other questions, just ask! Best to you. Legs

It sounds like you're doing great! I, too, added a little frozen fruit to my shakes during the full liquid times. I can't recall why I thought that it would be allowed, so I am trying to get hold of Susan Daniel. Will let you know if I hear back from her. The last thing I want to do is steer you wrong.

I had my first fill on the 19th (yesterday). It was weird. Although I don't really feel any additional restriction yet. I feel the same as before I had the fill....? Anyways I might have to have a couple more until I REALLY start feeling the restriction good. Later!

Kookie, I got this from Susan this morning:

"Yes you can put fruit into the shakes, just blend until

liquid. A full liquid diet is anything you can drink. We just steer them away from too high a calorie liquid."

Holly, most people don't feel much difference on the 1st, and sometimes the 2nd, fill. It's best to kind of "sneak up" on restriction because of the learning curve in eating with restriction.

Does anyone ever just feel sick to their stomache constantly? I do feel restriction now... I just didn't the day of the first fill. Today is the thrid day and I do feel restriction, although my stomache is growling all the time and I feel nausceas all the time. Like I'm hungry but eating doesn't make me feel good.... I'm confused. I don't think that the band is to full ... I just don't know.

Hi Holly. I hope you're feeling better by now.

I have gone through some times of slight nausea, probably 3 times total. They generally lasted about 2-3 days. With me, it was just a faint feeling of nausea, not ever feeling like I might really vomit, but not wanting to eat or drink much of anything either. I called the nurse at Dr. Edward's office the 2nd time and they gave me a prescription for Promethazine (Phenergan). By the time I got it, I was already feeling better, but I keep a few in my purse just in case.

Let us know how you're doing.

Anyone had experience with Dr. Nigro of WTLSC out of Kansas City? My friend who is in the health care profession herself was banded last week by him and almost died yesterday. From her family has relayed, her colon/intestines were punctured during the lap band surgery and she also had complications from a poorly repaired hernia. She went to the ER in extreme pain a couple days after the surgery, they checked for all the usual things and suggested she go back to see Dr Nigro. She drove several hours to KC to see him, he checked the band, etc and sent her home, even though the ER in K.C. said she should be admitted, he refused. Her husband drove her several hours at rapid speed back to the ER in our city and she was immediately rushed into surgery to repair the damage, they also ended up removing about 6 inches of her colon. She was told that she may have only lasted another few hours without this surgery. They also had to remove the band. One of the most disturbing things was that she was told by one of the Dr.'s and several nurses that they had recently had several more of his patients in the ER with the same issues.

I was on the road to being banded with this Dr. myself but have definitely changed my mind.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
