What activities are you looking forward to doing?

Recommended Posts

Sex is always on the list for anything. bigger, smaller, taller, shorter, lighter, darker. so besides the obvious!

outdoors activities (which I have always done) but without being exhausted. camping, hiking, fishing, hunting.

started running. I think I am making great progress in that regard.

sitting down in a chair without worrying if it will break or not!

zipline, rock wall, fun/mud run, live life to the fullest.

not having to read the weight restrictions on everything because you know you are light enough. (i.e. ladder)

I signed up for a zip line tour this Saturday. Decided there is no need to wait! It's 14 zip lines over 5 hours so this may be tough but I'm going to do it. I Bought a groupon for this 3 years ago and then realized I was over the weight limit so I couldn't do it.

I'm under now so it's game on!

For me, it's the little things. Being able to step into my car, rather than sit down backwards and drag my legs in. And being able to get up off the floor WITHOUT having to make sure there's a chair, stool, prop nearby that I can use for assistance.

AND I FORGOT ABOUT RESTAURANT BOOTHS!!! The greatest threat ever to overweight people. Booths are only 2nd to Wicker furniture on the fear scale for the overweight. :-P

I'm preop, sleeving on the 23rd.

I'm looking forward to the flight thing, buying suits off the rack at a normal store, and being able to do the yoga position where you sit cross legged and bend forward. Right now I can't bend due to my gut.

Feeling agile again, able to run with the kids with ease, learning to scuba dive. Fitting into tight places at work. Not worrying if the attic stairs are going to collapse under me.

I'm one week post op. I can so relate to everyone's posts! Had me cracking up thinking about fitting into restaurant booths, airplane seats, and tying my shoes again without using the pant leg assist method.

In the short term

  • Sitting in a booth
  • Not being fearful to fly on a plane.
  • Not having to buy my clothes from specialty stores that charge a fortune.

Long term

  • Getting stamina back to run. I'd like to do a 5K or Mud Run someday.
  • Like to also get back into CrossFit. Something I did a while ago and enjoyed.
  • Hopefully I wont sweat at the drop of a hat.

Here's a new one. I want to go kayaking. I love fishing and am too poor to own a boat, I figure a kayak is a good middle ground. I want to start flying more places. I simply refuse to fly anywhere at my current size. I want to ride a zip line. I want to sit at a restaurant booth. I want to see my wang again.

Warning lady posting in the men's room....... ????????????

Anyways. I am preop and here is a short list of what I am looking forward to.

- fitting in restaurant booths ( how embarrassing is it to always have to request a table and praying they have one ?)

- being able to fly without seat belt extender and spilling into the next seat.

- not feeling so harshly judged by everyone. Getting the stares, snickers and whispers.

- never ever thinking "oh this guy will not like me because of my size"

- being able to go to theme parks and ride all the rides without worrying if I will fit.

- buying clothes wherever I want. Right now there's only 2 stores I can shop at. I want variety, darnit.

- wearing a swimsuit in public.

- being able to do athletic activities 5k's, walking through the park, playing in adult softball/volleyball leagues.

- for my family to stop worrying about me

- to get pregnant one day.

- of course I'm hoping sex will be much better when im thinner and I can do things I can't do know.

- to never be told im pretty for a big girl or have a pretty face.

This list could go on and on and on.

I am still undecided on whether to get the sleeve but I'm swaying towards it a great deal after reading the success stories.

If I get it, I will be looking forward to doing so many things that people take for granted like buying clothes anywhere, not being afraid to walk through a crowded room, taking my shirt off at the beach, going go karting which has a weight limit.

I could go on for hours!

Good luck on coming to your decision, but I will say that this is already the best decision I've made in decades, and I'm not even six weeks past surgery. The thing that worried me the most was that I wouldn't have those parts of life that I cherished like eating and drinking with friends. Hogwash, I still do those things, but just eat a lot less and actually have a better time since I'm really there for the relationships and not the food. And then there's stuff like today, It's a beautiful day here in Portland Oregon, and I got on my bike and road vigorously for a couple hours, something that would have been unthinkable in the past was actually wonderful. I stopped by some friends houses on the way back to chat for a while, and got tons of compliments on how I look (lost 65lbs so far). Life is just better today then it was before my surgery. By a lot.

Good luck

I seem to have a lot of interests in common with ya'll...

  • Love to go skiing again. Used to be a ski instructor when I was young.
  • Scube diving! I used to scube dive all the time when I was first married 15 years ago. I was dive instructor certified. I cant wait to get back to it.
  • Going to the amusement park with my family and actually riding rides (instead of worrying If I am to fat to fit. Happened to me once.. was quite embarassing.
  • Sailing. I used to love sailing in the summer. Little sunfish boat. Time to research buying one.
  • Swimming without being embarassed (having to wear a shirt, etc).
  • I hear ya'll on the plane thing. I dread flying because I know I am inconviencing others. Hell i let out a sigh when the fat guy passes me in the aisle as well. I know others are thinking the same when I do.
  • Buying clothes at normal stores.. not the big and tall section.

So overall I have a lot to looks forward to.. Only 89 lbs away..

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
