pureed food! baby food?

Recommended Posts

During the mushy food stage, the thought or pureeing it myself kinda grosses me out. Idk why.....but what about little jars of baby food? Does anyone like that better? Is there one that tastes better than the other?? Any recommendations?

I didn't puree anything or eat any baby food during my "pureed" stage. I stuck to yogurt, soft cheeses (cottage cheese and ricotta), scrambled egg, Soup, and Protein Shakes.< /p>

With purées I actually didn't puree anything. I stuck primarily to my full liquid diet including greek yogurt, with the exception of cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. I only was on the pureed stage for 5 days, so it wasn't a huge deal for me. From prior experience (no kids but my gecko used to be handfed baby food). Fruity baby foods are quite tasty; bananas, apples, pears.

I was mentally put off by it, but once I started pureeing stuff that I knew I liked the taste of anyway it wasn't so bad. Wound up being tickled just to not be eating something sweet :).

As for the baby food, I tried a few kinds since I thought it would be easy but all of it was disgusting, even the fruits and veggies!

I did the baby food, but you have to watch the sugar intake. I did not like the dinners/veggies. I did mostly the Desserts...lol

One thing that saved me during my pureed stage was Shelly's Baked Ricotta. It's like lasagna without the noodles. It's delicious and really helped me feel like I was getting to eat "real" food. You can find the recipe by scrolling down this page:

There are some other food ideas and recipes for the pureed stage on that page as well.

I think baby food tastes icky and I didn't really puree stuff either. I just did the greek yogurt and stuff like that previously mentioned.

I pureed lots of things -- it's much better than it sounds if you do it right. First, puree your meat with a tasty sauce, not Water or broth. Not enough flavor in those! Then put your puree in a little ramekin, top it with some shredded cheese if you want, and heat it up in the microwave to get everything warm and the cheese melted. Some good combinations for me:

chicken + marinara sauce + mozzarella cheese

ground beef + BBQ Sauce + cheddar cheese

salmon + lemon dill sauce + peccorino cheese

shrimp + buffalo sauce + blue cheese

thai spice tuna + Sriracha sauce

turkey + peanut satay sauce + jack cheese

To me, baby food is absolutel vile (poor babies!) and the nutrition content is really pretty poor. YMMV.

I also ate refried Beans with hot sauce, Greek yogurt with Peanut Butter or almond butter stirred in, poached eggs, and Shelly's ricotta bake! There are all sorts of great alternatives to baby food.

I was more grossed out at the thought of buying baby food. I just smushed the food I normally eat. The only time I pureed things was to make them into a Soup.< /p>

My post op instructions explicitly say do no eat baby food. Probably too much sugar or something???? Doesn't say why....

Baby food isn't higher in sugar. My nutritionist said that whole meat baby foods were allowable because baby food would have the least amount of additive. It may just be your doctor's preference. Some prefer their patients resume a normal diet as soon as possible.

Puree doesn't really mean it needs to be creamed up like baby food. It really means the food is diced up so that you aren't swallowing large pieces. Think of the consistency of canned tuna.

I just finely diced all the meat and added a liquid such as broth, gravy, or sauce. Some people just chew very well and don't puree at all. I chose to puree/dice because I'm a fast eater.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
