January Sleevers ❄️

Told I needed to stay on chewable for 6mths! Stickers up on the Flinstones and caltrate chewables! I do take my daily thyroid med(small pill) and two melatonin each nite (small pills) with no problems. Dr said something about the large pill/multi Vitamin sitting in your new tummy isn't good.

Today I made my first flying trip since surgery and the fantastic news, I could use the seat belt without an extension! Whoohoo!

The not so good news, 4 days ago I had a planned binge on steamed broccoli and it turned out bad. I knew what I was doing, I wanted my old favorite evening activity of constant grazing and TV. Zone out...feel full, some metal hunger that wanted to be soothed. But of course it didn't work. I vomited hard, felt terrible all night and the next day.

The emotional journey with this WLS is hard. The old ways of self-medicating with food doesn't work now. I knew it was not a good choice to overeat any food. It could possibly stretch my new tiny tummy and challenge the new staple line of my new stomach. But I did it anyway, just had to have it! NOT a healthy choice. I did meet with my shrink the next day to work on those old emotional wounds so hopefully I won't have to do that again.

Today I am getting a good laugh at my binge on BROCCOLI!! It tasted so good it could have been ice-cream. Only fellow WLS folks to relate to this. (I HOPE!??) A "normal" eater just wouldn't get it.

Anyone else having some emotional challenges now that we can't eat our way through them?

Stall over I guess....I lost one very precious pound.

@@Eli Alexander Yea I did talk to my nut. she has access to myfitnesspal app. I know I need to intake more Protein but she said otherwise my food intake was really quite decent. She does want me to up my protein a bit. It is getting hard for me to do so cause of two reasons. One I can't STAND the taste of those shakes anymore. Not even ones I make. Two. I can't even eat that much meat unless it is fish and I can't eat all fish cause I hate the way it taste so I'm relying on alot of vegan food which is taking some getting use to. I hope this stall truly does end soon.

Hi everyone!!
I haven't checked in, in forever! I have been following everyones posts and am glad to see how well everything is going. I had my surgery on January 29th and it went really well. I was a revision from lap band to sleeve and the surgeon found some issues with the lap band, but was able to clean everything up and perform the sleeve. I have never felt in such control of my food choices in my life. No cravings, no binges...just normal eating (well, if 1 oz is normal). I can go out to dinner with friends and not be concerned about how much of my favorite food I will eat. It is such a freeing feeling. I started this journey at 350 pounds, 325 on the day of surgery. I am now sitting at 295 and am losing consistently...so 55 pounds gone so far. I will never see 300 again and am only 95 pounds from my goal (which is anything under 199). I am glad to be back here and watching the success everyone is having!

Jennifer

Well it sounds like you are doing everything correctly, I'm sure your stall will break soon.

The fish part made me laugh. Ron Swanson on the comedy Parks and Recreation says Fish is basically a vegetable. I kind of feel the same way, although I do like it, it just doesn't seem like the same category as real meat.

@@Eli Alexander Well maybe talking was my good luck charm cause I FINALLY broke it this morning with a loss. Only 1 lb but I will take it cause it is a loss not a gain. Yay! Ugh I cried on that scale! Oh and the fish does NOT keep me full. It is crazy I eat til I'm full then in about two-three hours i'm hungry to I feel like I'm snacking or picking all day. @@Aprilhoffman78 I def can't drink OJ or any juice it is so loaded with sugar and carbs that I had it ONCE and my nut gave me a scolding like I was my 2 yr old. Mostly cause I'm diabetic but I'm jealous. All I drink is crystal light, diet Decaf tea and Water. Pretty boring really!

So great to hear everyone's journey. I'm not losing the way Id like...I feel like my tummy is a little smaller but not much....I think I may be snacking too much. Not having trouble with too many foods...only thing that doesn't agree is tuna and eggs...which is sad because they're both good sources of Protein.< /p>

OUCH is all I can say today. It is really weird how we truly do not use every part of our body daily. I have been going to the gym-3-4 times a week mostly doing aerobic to get my heart rate up and try to burn some fat. So last night I thought I have been lightly going the weights and my trainer really hit me hard with those workouts last night. I'm a hurting today, it is a good pain but geez crazy to think that I have not used those muscles on that level in I don't know how long. I was down two lbs but this morning I woke up again up one so bleh forget it. I'm just going to throw that scale out the window and weigh in once a month. It is driving me nuts!

Veronica, congrats on the loss! I'm helping my brother right now watching their kids. It's fun, but not good for my diet, it seems like I'm cooking for one of them every hour and I'm a nibbler.

April, awesome pic, nice knowing others can see all the changes. I've been getting tons of comments recently cause I'm traveling and seeing people I haven't seen in months. The people you see daily can't spot the weightloss like others can.

I'm a nibbler too which is why I have premade bento boxes ready for me when I cook for them. It is hard with kids not being an eating schedule. All I guess we can do is have our own lil Snacks handy for those times. I have a slice of cheese or a roll of deli meat or a hard boiled egg no whites cut up! Good luck and I love when people notice that I have lost weight even if it just my family.

So close to onederland! Weighed in at 200# on the dot. Was stalled for 3 weeks then dropped 5 lbs in a weekend. Surgery was 1/7. I just upped my walking time from 30 min to an hour+ a day. I can eat anything I want. Usually 3-4 meals a day, Protein Shakes in between. I try to think of meat/protein rich sources first. I've got a college diet. Yogurt, tacos, chicken nuggets, etc. Cafeteria food = fast food. I try for a portion of Protein and some carbs. Probably up to 900 Cal a day. I weight train maybe 2-3 days/week. No issues with hair or skin yet. Knock on wood. Good with liquids, bad with Vitamins. Either they're horse pills or taste like hay.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
