Question...do you look older after your weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I am so tempted to put my pictures in this thread! Hmm. I'll go back to sleep a bit and see how I feel about it when I really wake up :-).

I think I look older but everyone tells me otherwise. I have noticed my laugh lines because my chipmunk cheeks aren't as chipmunk-ish any longer. Lol

My face keeps changing as I keep losing weight. Even my wrinkles become more and less and more and less pronounced. And my face shape / proportions shift subtly subtly as the weight loss continues.

I guess this is like haircuts--it looks good / better / worse / better / bad / better between haircuts. I hope my ass and my face are both at good points when I stop losing weight.

Oh, and plastic surgeons I've talked to say that for a full year after we stop losing weight, the face and the body will keep changing and adjusting to the weight loss.

EDIT: And one other thing ... I've had some good facials and good facial skin care on this journey, and that has helped a lot, too. Do it!

My dimples returned which makes my smile much younger. I do have a turkey wattle now but it seems to come and go. That sounds weird but I noticed that same thing happen on a good friend who lost 100 pounds years ago. I started to notice her wattle, but then a few months later it seemed to tighten up. So I'm hoping mine snaps back over time. No matter what, I look younger and happier than I have in years.

I feel younger! I'm 46 and I don't believe I look older, most people guess my age around 38!

Since surgery my skin is more clear....no more breakouts....I think its because I cut out sugar! I use moisturizer on my face and neck 2 or 3 times a day and drink a lot of Water. I have noticed my neck is a little saggy....and it scares me a little. But, my doctor advised that it takes about a year for the your skin to adjust and I should notice a big difference then. He advised to stay hydrated..even if I have to force the water...and to lather on the moisturizer.

A little sagging on the neck is a good trade for my double chin and chunky cheeks! :)

Prior to my weight loss I'd look at my face and think, I will never have a wrinkle due to my plumpness, now 111pounds down, I look at my face and see more of it, in its intended state. I look at thinner people and see the same marks and lines as I have, and realize I look normal and I'm happy with that. Overall I look younger and feel younger. I walk younger too, meaning that physically I walk better no leaning, limping, huffing and puffing, but more of a graceful gait. My neck was saggier (nothing horrific) when I was losing 10 pounds or more a month, and it has tightened up quite a bit now that my weight loss has stabilized to a slightly less loss per month. I was aging myself more prior to my sleeve, and i feel so amazing now!

This was my fear: I am only at the start of my journey, got sleeved on 12-23. I have lost 22 pounds since 12-10, and look very saggy to me in the mirror. So anyway I took my 22 year old kid to whole foods and we were looking at sushi: I was going to buy her some for dinner. I said wistfully "I wish I could have sushi". (I am in the puree phase.) :/ This guy standing next to us looked at me and said, "But you can't , since you are pregnant and it is bad for the baby, right?" I burst out laughing hysterically and said "Bless you for thinking that is possible!" (I am 62. MY 33 year old daughter is pregnant with my first grandchild! :D) So the God of my understanding has a wonderful sense of humor....I took this to mean that I should not worry about looking like the crypkeeper when I get to my goal weight. LOL.

I'll be 60 in July but since I've lost weight I have been told I look like I'm in my 40s, I'll take that LOL.

Hi all. I'm 58 and this is definitely a concern for me as well. A lovely gentleman at work who I have known for almost 30 years recently had a gastric sleeve. He was out for a bit from work, but the first time I saw him walk by me, I couldn't even say that I was sure it was him. I did a double take. And a triple and quadruple take. I had to wait until saw him a few more times before I had the courage to speak to him!! He did look older, I hate to say. Or lets put it this way, his definite plumpness helped him look younger -- and I do hate to say this too (because someday I will be on the opposite side of surgery myself) but I think he looked better before.....BUT, I know he was NOT healthy, and he says it's the absolute BEST thing he has ever done. He's the same age as me. In fact, he was the one who really nudged me over the edge to persue surgery.

Another lady at work, same thing, I think she looks older now.

However, I just had my first ever facial today, and was chatting with the gal who said there is sooo much technology out their now to help with firmness and wrinkles, that I think I'm going to take advantage of some treatments when I have lost a fair amount of weight. I know it's pricey, but dang it, as a single mom, Ive put everyone else before me for so long, I think it's time for me to get some TLC :)

I'm 31 and I'm getting carded now. I reached my goal weight today of 220 lbs. I'm going to keep on losing as much as I can. I've been told I look anywhere from 21 to 24.

Before surgery, I looked like I was upwards of 38 and I felt like I was 50. Always tired, out of breath and couldn't do anything and slept all the time. Now its almost impossible to stop me.

I look way younger after losing 160# My before and after are in my profile.

I was looking through photos of my obese self in late 90s when I was mid 30s and I might look younger now at 50 even from then.

Insane part of this is I recently started a thread about my face dismorphia but when I am objective about it...it's true I look younger without the fat.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
