December 29, 2014 sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! I uninstalled the app and haven't been online in ages. How are y'all doing? @@GreenEyes604 I would like to hear more about the cruise and the Facebook group. I had my surgery out of town and haven't been able to attend an in-person support group, so I would love to find one on Facebook!

I have lost 47 lbs since surgery 12/29/14 and had lost 14 preop, so I am down 61 lbs since my highest weight. I feel so much better already, but I still have a long way to go! I do not exercise regularly, and I know I need to. I am already losing hair too - is anyone else? I thought I had a couple more months before that would start. I'm taking loads of Biotin. I'm glad it's baseball season, so I can wear a cap if it starts looking too bad LOL!

I hope everyone is doing well, and I would love to hear some updates from y'all!!

Hey @@MamyBeth! Sleeved same day as you. Down 76 lbs, feeling great, full of energy, except I don't sleep much and my hair is falling out too =( I take 10,000mcg of Biotin daily, and my recommended Vitamins, haven't been drinking nearly enough Water or taking in my recommended Protein lately. Water makes me gag, as of late, so I've been putting lemon in it recently, and it's helped me get in around 40 oz a day.. not bad, but not great.

Congrats on your success so far!! I don't usually get in enough Water either :(

I haven't been keeping my food diary, but I think I am doing okay on protein...I drink a 30g Protein Shake for Breakfast every day. I need to start logging everything again. It really helps!

Yeah I think I should begin logging as well. =/ I still have another 96 lbs I want to lose. My weightloss is starting to slow down a bit, and I'm scared I won't reach my goal. I think my best bet would be logging again. My days are so hectic I sometimes forget to eat/ drink, then I get a bunch of Water in right before bed, and I'll be up peeing all night =/

Venting here!!! So I'm a bit bummed out. I'm down 80 lbs, which I think is great! But today 2 people asked how I was doing and when I told them I'm down 80#'s one said, "wow you're losing it slowly" and the other said "that's it?! Slowly but surely you'll eventually lose it!" Wtf seriously?! Granted, I want to lose a total of 170 lbs, but I'm almost half way there after 4 months and a week! People can be such jerks!

Gotta wonder what in the world makes them think 20lbs a month is slow?! In fact it is fantastic! I'm 4 months out and have only lost 42 lbs since surgery, and now it's really slowing down. So you are doing great!

@@Catcutie, thank you, and congrats on your weightloss. I know there are many factors that can impede or speed up weightloss...for me, it's losing a person! Losing 170 #s would bring me to 172. Still considered overweight for my height (5'10"). Today, I was talking to my nail tech about this and she said "well, for having had WLS it is a slow loss" ?!?!?! People really do think WLS is a quick fix!! They really believe you will drop 150 lbs overnight!!!!! Ignorance is bliss, after all!!

Hello! How are you @@Big_Mama?

I have only lost 12 lbs. since my last report in mid April! What a wake-up call!! I knew I hadn't been eating right, but WOW!! I am thankful to have continued to lose while eating crap, but I know I could have lost at least twice that if I'd eaten the right foods and exercised. I've been craving salad lately, and I've been wanting Water more and more, so hopefully those two things will help instead of my "one piece of chocolate won't hurt" LOL

It is already too hot in southeast Texas to go walking outside, so I will be getting back to my stationary bike. I've been using 3-lb hand weights to try to build some muscle in my saggy arms. They're hideous :(

I got my hair cut short again to try to hide the Hair loss. It is nice to have it short for the summer! :)

Hi @@MamyBeth! Ohhhh do I feel your pain!! My arms look terrible! They're still waving 30 seconds after I've stopped waving ! I knew I would have loose skin though, since I had so much weight to lose, and I've been overweight for so long. My weightloss also slowed down drastically when I began to allow junk back into my system. There have been quite a few gatherings at my place, so chips & dip, along with ice cream and chocolate have been eaten on numerous occasions. Ice cream and chocolate make me sick, so you'd think I'd stop eating them, but nope, I still have them when company brings some over for dessert, then puke afterwards =/ I justify eating it with knowing h that's going to happen, if not I can "burn it if in the gym! " Smh

My hair is still falling out by the chunks. I was thinking about getting it cut to my shoulders (down to my waist). I know hair grows back, but I'm really nervous about parting with it.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
