I have surgery Jan 26th, I feel woefully uninformed on how to eat, save 5 shakes a day during preop, and postop., and how much Water is needed, Since this isn't my 1st surgery, I'm not worried about it, (3 csections, gallbladder, and other stuff) I'm worried about aftercare, and the whatifs about not immediately bouncing back, even with my csections it took almost a week to be up and walking well enough to be left alone. Doc seems to think it won't be a huge deal....Does anyone relate to this concern?

Hi there everyone am new to this site... I only have one person I've confided in re my surgery and that's my mum...... My surgery is scheduled for the roux en y bypass on 23 Jan.....to start with I was totally excited... I'd worked hard to lose weight to prove I can have the surgery but now I'm close I did the stupid thing of goggling stories and also side effects..... Now I'm stressing and feel. Like pulling out.... I'm worried about my hair falling out, I'm worried I'm going to be severely malnourished and I'm also looking for work.... My surgeon. Did not mention. I'd need Vitamins for the rest of my life.... :( now I'm stressing myself out and feeling so. Overwhelmed as I don't have anyone who can reassure me it will be ok or anyone to speak to.... Most people who I know who. Swear by wls have had the sleeve.... So I'm curious why the bypass is so widely offered instead.....

I'm sorry to pore all this out... I've worried myself silly over the last 24 hrs to the point I feel sick.... Can anyone offer me some advice????

Thanks

It sounds like you have some research to do. And that's OK, you have plenty of time to do it. My surgeon hasn't told me nearly as much as I have learned from reading these boards.

I can tell you that I chose the RNY because it has better long term weight loss outcomes for people as large as I am. I don't want to go through another surgery because I failed this one.

But having this surgery is a lifelong commitment to a new lifestyle. Vitamins, many say no caffeine, alcohol, smaller portions, healthier eating. Many of the worst possible side effects (like hair loss) can be prevented or moderated by following instructions and commitment to a new way of life.

The payoff is big!

Thanks Kay.... The Vitamins aren't a big issues for me I just worry as I'm looking for work I don't want to end up sick all the time.... Alcohol well id be lucky to drink once a year if that..... But yes hair loss is a worry.... Did you have a lot of hair loss!?!!! Hope you don't mind me asking.....

My surgery date is January 19th. I am not worried about the surgery at all. I am only excited and ready for it. The two week liver shrinking diet I am a little concerned about. I have a sweet tooth and it really shows at night. Regardless I have been making small changes for last 8 months so I know I can do it! Plus my wife has lost 85lbs since her prep and post gastric sleeve surgery. New life for both of us. ????

BrianH are you having the bypass or sleeve????? I have a sweet tooth also lol.... If your having a bypass can I ask. Why your surgeon advised of the bypass more over the sleeve???

I'm still pre op, just like you! Surgery date is January 15. I've just read and re-read these boards and every other bariatric info site I can find.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
