Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Okay, I think I may have slimed last night. Is this what it's like? TMI follows: I was eating a porkchop, only 3 ounces of meat and it was tender. I cut it up into small bites and believe I was chewing enough, etc. etc. But, I had a cat practically sitting in my plate begging, so I think I was eating too quickly. Well all of sudden I felt the tightness in the chest, but that usually passes, so I didn't worry. But, then I decided to walk around and sip some Water. Next thing I know, I'm hanging over the kitchen sink, trying not to retch, but then I start gagging and there's all of this saliva coming out practically in bubbles. Nothing disgusting, just clear liquid. And lots of big bubbles. Then after about the fourth time, there were tiny bits of meat, but still not like getting sick, just slimy saliva. It was wierd. Took about ten to fifteen

minutes, before the discomfort passed. What do you think?

I had trouble too with PORK... It was ribs that I had though... it was disgusting and uncomfortable... I dont' want a repeat of that performance so I guess Pork is on my NOT TO DO list from now on.

Weird, but I can eat whole wheat bread just fine???

any ideas? I've only had 1 fill to date.

Marcy

Congrats on having a wonderful anniversary. I hope to 1 day find a guy who is as romantic and thoughtful as yours.

Walking record

45 minutes today around the neighborhood. Good weather.

I'm hoping that I lost some weight. I need to get the scale moving.

Jackien and everyone: I am so thankful that this band was developed during our lifetimes so that we can live like "normal" people and have the opportunity to live healthier lives and see our children become adults and enjoy our grandchildren. All the frustrations of the band, and the discomforts (yes, I am having my share) are worth it when you keep everything in perspective. Whoever started this discussion on motivation: Thanks--what a great reminder!

I decided to give it another try and ate another 3 oz pork chop for lunch today and it went down no problem. It was extremely filling however. I'm still feeling quite a bit restriction so I may skip the next fill. Will let Dr decide what's best.

Guess what? I'm going on a cruise in November and wondered whether my formal dresses would still work, so I decided to try them on this morning, well they fit just fine, so I decided to try on another work dress from 13 years ago. And it fit, so I tried ten more and I'm very close to getting into all of them again. It's funny, but I've lost weight differently this time. (It's happened in the past too.) When I was last in the mid-high 170's in 2004, these clothes were still too tight, but this time they are going to work.

They are very nice dresses, but most have shoulder pads, which probably aren't in fashion now, but I've never let that dictate. I'm going to wear them. I shouldn't have to buy any clothes until I reach my goal, assuming I make that. DH is thrilled too, less money to be spent!

Brandy--Isn't that a great feeling? People will think you spent the weekend shopping when you didn't spend a dime! Good for you~! I can't wait to go shopping in my basement.

Is anyone else losing weight in their breasts??? Mine is coming off other places too, as I can tell in my clothes, but my boobs sure are getting saggy! I mentioned to DD11 the other day and then the next time she saw me naked, she goes "Mom..you're right...your boobs are getting saggy!" I told her to help me save for that breast lift I'll be needing!

My Motivation..........easy......my kids. My kids lost their dad 4 years ago to diabetis at the age of 35. He had had it since he was a juvenile and about 2 years before he passed it had really spun out of control. He had had several debrieing (sp?) surgeries on foot ulcers, lost 2 toes, then had a below the knee ambutation and suffered a small stroke. Then he because very sick from absesses on the spleen that mayo told us was not uncommon among diabtics who used needles on a regular basis for injeting insulin. Anyway he passed away.

At one point before he had gotten sick I had weighed 226 pounds. I had gone on a diet and exercised, ate healthy and etc and got down to 155pounds. I felt great. When he got sick I started to take less and less care of myself and let myself go. When he passed I was back at 189. Afterwards I was in a major depression and so worried about the kids that I let myself go to the point of 275 pounds 4 years later. One day my kids and I were going to town and my daughter started to talk about her wedding day, graduation, having babies and etc. My son chimed in and was talking about the same. I then thought to myself 'I am in no way healthy. My weight and family history could kill me at anytime.' I then decided I really wanted to do weight loss surgery but the by pass scared the hell out of me. I had heard of the lap band but didn't know much about it. So I started to research it very vigorously. Went to a seminar in April and talked with my family doc in april and confirmed that my insurance would pay if I met criteria. May 2, we went to my daughters best friends 16th birthday party (she is 4 months older than my daughter). They had a DJ and the first song was dedicated to the birthday girl and her dad. Courtney (my daughter) turned and said I will never have that. I won't even have that at my wedding. I cried. I told her you won't have you dad honey but you will have me. THat is the day that I knew for definate no matter what I would have this surgery. I didn't care how it had to be paid for I was going to be here for those kids. That is my motivation. They are getting older and graduations are getting closer and by the time she graduates I am going to be at a healthy weight and be here for many years with them.

She also suffers from weight issues but since the surgery I cook only healthy foods in the house. She has talked to our family doctor about the band and he is doing the monthly weigh ins with her now so that if that is what she decides when she is 18 she will have all needed documentation to do so. We are staying ahead of things. Like I told her if she loses it on her own over the next 2 years that is great but if not the decision will be hers when she is 18 and she will have everything she needs to be able to do it.

Sorry for such a long post. I get so winded when I talk about these things.

Jackie, thank you for sharing. I knew by how hard you were working that it had to be more than wanting to look good. We all want that, but your motivation, so beautifully written, is certainly the stuff that gets the job done!!! It's why I'm doing this too. I've always been overweight, and managed really well. I'm very strong, physically able to do most things well, fairly attractive, etc. But my health is not as good as it should be and I have type 2 diabetes. I'm 41 and didn't marry until I was 31. I want to be here when my daughter gets married and has kids. She's only 3! So unless I want to encourage her to marry young... I've got to get healthier!!

OMG I HAVE MISSED SO MUCH. It is going to take days to catch up. I went to my reunion over labor day weekend then I came home and got strep throat. I was in bed for 3 days and then my 5 yrs old got it. It is so misrable. However on a good note I did lose a couple of pounds from not being able to eat. I would not recommend this option though. Well Im going to try to get caught up on the posts. I hope everyone is doing well. Only 3 more weeks till my 1st fill so I think I just might make my first goal of onederland by Halloween.

I had a mini slime a few minutes ago... on a sip of Water!!! I took the sip and could feel it in my upper throat area, just sitting there. I felt like I had to burp, so tried and a bit of slime came up. Kind of weird, but not too bad.. afterall, it was only water! LOL

I was so proud of my control yesterday and what I ate, etc. Today, well not so good. I started the day with a good multigrain muslie style Cereal and had 1 cup. Then after eating it, realized the "serving" measurement for the nutrition chart was 1/3 cup. So instead of having 200 cals for Breakfast, I had 600 cals. !!!

Then as a tradition, after church we always go to Starbucks (my son calls it the "coffee store"). I had a pumpkin spiced latte and a fruit and nut bar. I knew the latte was too much, but never dreamed how high both were. I went online this afternoon and found out they are both 380 cals each!!!

We then had some errands to run, and wanted the kids to get some exercise, so went to McDonalds for lunch (playland, and its raining today). I had a fajita, which was really good, and the right size, and good in cals too (200). But as the kids were playing, I decided to have an ice cream cone!!!

So now, before we've even had dinner, I've consumed 1800 cals. Opps!!! Oh well, in the past it would have been 3000 or more.

BTW, when I was at the doctors on Friday, their body composition reader said my body burns 2000 cals per day at rest. So I guess today will be a neutral day! Yesterday I had 1100 cals.

I don't intend to count cals all the time, just for now until I get the hang of things.

Phyllis -- Take a linefrom the movie Network. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.

Kathy -- Congrats to you, your husband and family on a full time job.

Brandy -- you are doing great with your weight loss.

Have to go exercise. Had to take the pets to the vet this morning. My dog is day to day week to week. I thought we were going to have to put him down today. They took blood again to see where his renal values are. Two weeks ago he was in the vet and after 4 days of fluids they changed a little. We'll see. He is older and it hurts.

I am asking everyone to please be careful driving when it has rained. The other night my nephew hit a low spot on the road where Water was. His car hydroplaned and he crashed into one of the overpass poles . He needed to be removed from his car with the jaws of life after removing his car door and half of his steering wheel. He was wearing his seat belt. He will be OK. He had surgery and lost his spleen. His stomach and colon were shifted to the other side of his body and had herniated into his diaphragm. To top it off after the accident someone took his school laptop, his books and his Nintendo Wii. Talk about low. So please be careful. Thanks.

Riberity - I am so very sorry to read about your troubles - I have 2 babies (pom & poodle) The become part of you heart...

And your nephew - I will say a prayer.

Morning everyone

I went for my first fill yesterday. YAY! :clap2: Everything went well. I didn't feel anything. My doc asked me if I was nervous, I told him "No, I'm excited!" :) I told him my appetite had increased, not to the point where I was ravenous and always hungry, but that I felt I was eating a little too freely. So we got that sorted out in less than a minute. Who said "no pain, no gain"? Pft!!! :)

My band is 4cc and I got 1.75cc fill. He was initially going to give me 2cc, but the restriction came up short of that. I can feel it. Last night was a little tough because my head was telling me I wanted more Soup, but my body was telling me it was enough. I really need for my head to get with the program! :);)

More good news. That sleep study bill I told you all about for $734; I spoke with the staff there yesterday and they got their office accountant to come chat with me. She took a copy of my bill and told me I should never have received it in the first place. She's going to sort it out for me and call me when she gets a response from the centre in question. According to her, yes they were an out of network centre, but they agreed to charge me as if I was IN network. Forgoing the extra cost they billed me for. Apparently this do this all the time with my doctor's patients. I didn't know if I was happier about my fill or the fact that I wouldn't have to pay this unexpected bill.

And the icing on the cake, I lost 2 pounds this week when I thought it would have gone the other way because of my increased appetite. Life is goooood. Oh yes sireee it is! :D

CONGRATULATIONS !!!! on both the fill, weight loss & especially the sleep study bill....:clap2::clap2:

Its been a while since anyone has mentioned our July 07 Bandster cruise for next summer. I know Dini hasn't been around too much lately and she was keeping a list. Also, there have been newbies join us here since last we spoke of this. So I've been thinking about it and hope to get a chance to go talk to a travel agent who is in the neighborhood and get some suggestions from her about next summer... August time frame, right?? And we don't want to go to any hurricane vulnerable areas. I need to have an idea of how many might be interested.

Count me as interested - but I really don't know where we can go except Alaska at that time of year because of the hurricanes - and it's way too hot & humid in mexico that time of yr even without the hurricanes - I was in maztiland last yr at a resort in June and about died from the humidity... Well yes this August i will be thinner but it's still HOT & Humid...

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
