Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Remember how I was complalining about all the food events? Well inspite of it all, I did manage to lose 5 pounds last week! And better yet, I got my first fill this morning and was able to talk the doctor into 2 mls instead of 1 1/2 ml. I'm feeling good and tight now--can't get down more than a couple of sips of Water without burping and hiccupping for a 1/2 hour afterwards. I don't feel a bit hungry now! I know it's pretty aggressive, but at $300/fill + traveling over an hour one way, I don't have the time or the money to keep going back. Hope things settle down over the weekend.

I did learn something new at the doctor's and am wondering if anyone else has heard of this. My doctor said that about 60% of his patients have the bacteria H. Pyloris in their stomachs, and he doesn't do surgery on them until he has treated that with three different medications. H. Pyloris is the bacteria that is associated with stomach ulcers and he said that it can cause erosion around the band if he doesn't treat it. The bacteria is detected by testing your breath for the presence of amonia. Did anyone have a breath test before surgery?

Linda, that's awesome! 5 lbs in a week! Congratulations :clap2:

I can't wait until my fill, it sounds like what I need. I never heard of this other test, will ask my dr. next Wed.

Jackie - what a "heartattack" moment hearing that you would have to pay, I'm so happy they got it all sorted out for you!!!:clap2:

Linda - Never heard of a breath test before.....

I was self pay also and after hearing Lynette's good news I called my surgery center, but alas, with the insurance I have and the place I had it done at, they will deny me. Oh well, it was worth a try!!! I'm still losing weight, so it's all good....:whoo:

vipertireswife, welcome to the Lucky 7's.

Kristin, it doe get beter after the fill, but it may take a second one to really make you feel a difference.

jackie, I hope you like Turbo Jam. I'll hopefully be getting my Hip Hop Abs next weekend. Isn't it amazing how crazy the insurance companies can be.

Aunt Phyl, too old??????? No way.

silntwhispers, I eat around 4 ozs, every 3 hours, about 5 to 6 times a day.

lindaa, never heard of the breath test. I wonder if they can check that through blood work, cause I had a lot of that taken before surgery!!!

ssankofa, my doc said wheneve I felt like I was ready. Then I had a hard time convincing my DH of it, but you'll know.

I know this is silly but what does "PB" mean? I haven't thrown up yet but I have eaten too much not thinking about it and it hurt in my chest. I wish sometimes it would just come up. Glad you're ok! I guess this is part of the live n' learn process.

Hi everyone.

Vipertireswife, welcome to the Lucky 7's. I was banded on July 26th, and am awaiting my first fill on Sept. 10th. Ohhhh I wish it were tomorrow. I have no restriction at all.

Jeanie, wow, you've overcome a major hurdle that many people losing weight never do. Your mindset has switched to "thin person" mode. This can only help you achieve your goal!!!

Jackie, OMG!!!! I think I would have ate a whole bag of Cookies if I received those phone calls. Good for you to turn to the treadmill to help with the stress!!! As for the $29,900... that's ridiculous. I imagine if you were a self pay, that price would be less. They probably increase the price whenever its through insuance. I'm a self pay and my bill was $16,000. That includes all lifetime fills and other appointments.

Today was the last day of vacation for me and my DH (without the kids). We went to lunch and then a movie. I was able to eat way too much popcorn. :cry Then we enjoyed a nap :D;) before picking up the kids.

I have a question off topic of banding. Does anyone have a friend or family member that has Tourettes Syndrome or Chronic Tic Disorder? We think our son might have Chronic Tic Disorder, and would love some first had advice.

Take care everyone, I'm off to bed.

Kathy, My daugher who is now 17 was diagnosed with chronic tic disorder. She started with vocal tics when she was 4. at first our pediatrican stated that tics were normal in child hood and we should wait for a while. When withing 6 months she stared with motor tics, and we were sent to a pediatric neurologist. She was given an EEG, and Cat scan, and it was determind that she had Chronic Tic Disorder. He explained how it is in the spectrum of Touretts Syndrom but full blow touretts is on one end of the spectrum, and chronic tic disorder is on the other end of the spectrum. He said that we would see the tics come and go (wax and wane) and that they could be either motor or vocal or both at the same time. If it progressed then she would be evaluated furthter for Tourettes. Her tics did exactly what he said. In times of stress--School starting, Christmas, vacation (even though some of these are good events, they produce stress in children) she would start with the ticks, and they would come and go. But as she progressed toward puberty...They stopped. My youngest daughter who is 10 also has tics but not as sever as my oldest.

I used to beat myself up, because I had many tics as a child (but my mother never took me to a doctor-she just used to tell everyone that I was a nervous child). Mine also lessened through puberty, but to be honest, in times of stress, I do tic....I have learned to keep it to myself and nobody knows Im doing it, but it still happens.

Neither of my girls were ever medicated. The neurologist said that we dont treat a tick because its bothering the parent. If it bothers the child, then we can talk about it. My daughter was very bold about her condition when she was younger, if someone pointed out what she was doing she would just tell people young and old that "its called a tic, my body does it and I have no control over it" and most people never said another thing about it. She was very compfortable about herself. I hope this helped. It you want to PM me, you can, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hello all. I need some encouragement and this is the BEST place for that. Here is my rant. I have not lost ANY weight since a week ago this past Tuesday. I don't get it. I am exercising regularly, walking the treadmill and riding the bike, more active then I have been in years!!! I know I have NO RESTRICTION but I am in NO WAY eating what I used to. I eat about a cup of food even though I could eat ALOT more. I feel like I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what!! I have even gained 2 pounds!!!!!!!!!! ;) I am hoping that is because aunt flo is coming in the next few days. I usually gain weight right before and then drop a few pounds once she 'arrives'. Cross your fingers for me that is what it is.

I am feeling VERY discouraged tonight by all of this. I dont get my fill until September 5 and I am so afraid I am going to end up gaining what I have lost. Any suggestions to help kick start me again? I am drinking my Water and getting my Protein. Eating healthy.:help:

I then went on youtube and watched a few videos of 'failed' lap bands and got myself worried that that will be me. Really would love some of all your words of wisdom to get me back on track. Thanks everyone!!!

Jackie- try not to get discouraged. You cannot and will not always be able to measure success by the numbers on a scale. You success' are that you exercised on a regular basis, and that you managed to stay on program even though you are not feeling any restriction. Congradulations!!!!!!!!!! The weight loss will come. Celebrate what you did succeed in this week. You might be retaining Water with your period on the way. So with that in mind. Relax. You did good. The numbers will go down, maybe not today, but very soon.

Kathy, Sorry to hear vacation is over! Always sad when it ends! Just never seems long enough, lol! It is sooo nice that you were able to spend some family time with your DH and children!

I wish I could be helpful with the syndromes, but don't know much, except that one of our administrators and one educational professional have a mild form of it. You wouldn't notice it much, except they both have noticeable facial twitches, though both are very different in the twitch itself. Otherwise, you would never know! Now, one of the two, does have some ADHD, but that is about the extent. I wish you the best with that. We will pray that the professionals get things figured out and start treating him in the correct manner!

Oh and the popcorn ... I had some the other day too! Didn't think that was supposed to go down, lol! But no problems here! I called today and my doc scheduled my fill for next Weds. So hopefully, that will get me back on track!!!! :help:

Anna, Impressive how you handle your children! It is sooo important that the children feel secure with who they are and you sound so accepting and loving!!! It is nice to hear!:)

Jackie, I am with you on the no weight loss, and also have avoided the scales for fear that they will show a gain! It is soooo hard right now, I guess we just do our best and that has to be good enough!!! Hang in there! Seems like many of us are sharing the same boat, lol!!;)

Gonna scoot on to bed! Hope everyone enjoys their evening! Chat tomorrow! Night all!:notagree

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
