Surgery Scheduled 11/17/14...Any last minute tips?

Recommended Posts

I am just a few days from surgery. I have my final appointment with the Dr in the morning. Barring any unforseen circumstances I will be having surgery Monday morning at 11:30. I am trying not to freak out, but that is easier said than done. Any last minute tips/stories that will help with the nerves?

stock up on Protein shakes sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello, because after the surgery energy level is like a zero so shopping ahead of time is a really good idea. also you will probably want to take a firm pillow with you not nessicarily for the hospital room, but for the ride home. best of luck :)

@@taniaceli Mine is at 11:30 on Monday. I am glad to know I am not the only one who is scared. My husband is being a champ listening to me worry :) I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers on Monday morning. Hope all goes well for you.

PS My actual name is Kimberly. I haven't quite figured out how to display something other than the screen name.

Your gonna need some Swiss miss no sugar added hot chocolate and fudge pops and don't forget to get some gas strips because after surgery you get so much gas it hurts so bad in your shoulder and stomach and back and it's all due to the gas they put in you for the surgery . I didn't think I would need that when some one told me to get it and boy was I wrong .. Good luck on this journey I too was also very scared the days leading up to my surgery and everything went so well .. Again good luck and I am 9 months out and this was the best decision I ever made????

Having surgery tomorrow morning. Wondering what to pack for the hospital stay besides earplugs?

Any tips are appreciated!

I am surprisingly calm, nerves haven't set in yet. But, I think I will be wreck by the time I check in tomorrow! Glad it's Friday the 14th and not the 13th!

Good luck everyone!

Gas x strips are thin strips that dissolve on your tongue and are not hard on the stomach like gas x pills because of not being able to take pills rite out of surgery..so the gas x strips work wonders????

I was just sleeved 11/04/14!

The Gas-X strips work wonders. I will be praying for each of you. I agree with the other posters as well get the sugar free Popsicles and sugar free Jello. The pillow is a good idea especially if you have to cough. Be sure to get up as soon as they allow and walk, walk, walk, that's what helps the gas pain in your shoulders and back; the strips help with the gas in your belly.

I'm 11/17 too! Had an ultrasound of my gall bladder this morning. No results yet but I'm feeling pretty confident it'll come out at the same time. Right now I'm excited for the surgery but terrified of the gas and drain

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
