Just hanging on to a few more pounds....

Recommended Posts

Warning: a little whine.

I'm so close, yet I feel so far from where I want to be. I just have a few more pounds to lose. I'm sure I could lose it if I got crazy-strict with food, but I want the loss to be sustainable. I've been hanging around the same weight for almost 6 months. It's very frustrating.

Just wanted to vent.

Thanks y'all.

We can feel for you. Its ok to whine here. We all have times of "oh my this is too much". You can get thru this. No matter what, the tiny bits we have left make it easier to lose weight.

I hear you. I'm in the same boat. If I ate 900 calories a day and exercised for an hour every day, I could probably get my weight lower. I might, at some point. Right now, though, I'm trying to make peace with that number on the scale because I look pretty normal and feel great. Even maintaining this weight, I have to be very careful with my diet. 80-90% of the time I am spot on, no digression from my plan. But once in a while, I allow myself a little break from the strict plan, and I'm sure that's why I don't drop more weight. I've been at this weight for about 8-9 months, and my body likes it here. Like you, I need for it to be a sustainable loss, and so far, it seems this is. At times, I do yearn for about 10 more lost pounds though....

I too have never been able to reach my goal weight, sigh ..... I've been within 5 lbs but then gained back 5 and have been fighting to maintain with many ups and downs ever since. It seems to be the way it is for many of us. I think it's difficult on multiple levels. First we lose like crazy and then it suddenly seems to come to a screeching halt. The honeymoon is over!! At least we have a fighting chance now. But none of us are used to success with weight loss so we're hyper critical of ourselves for not attaining a goal that may be unrealistic for our bodies. I also struggle with so much anxiety about regaining my weight and stress over it which only makes me want to eat more! Lastly, our body and our body image may not be in agreement. I still feel so damn fat! WTF?????

Non of you look fat to me! Seriously consider changing your goal and focus on long term health and maintaining. I personally am done with beating myself up over a number. It's true I would like to re - lose about 5# myself but I am ecstatic in this body right now. I give thanks daily for it.

I agree with this. I thought I might want to be 140 lbs. My body decided I would be 152 lbs. I accept it. It's still better than 230 lbs. Once I accepted 152 I dropped a few more, but mainly, once I accepted it, I started to like my new body and that's made all the difference with respect to happiness.

I totally feel ya! I've been trying to lose this last 5 pounds for about 4 months now. And like you said, I could go to all liquids and drop it in a couple days, but I want to lose it for good. Sigh.

Thanks for y'all (mostly) supportive comments!! lol

I'm really committed to losing the last bit I want as I'm hoping to one day compete. Trying to grow those muscles!!! (But losing fat at the same time) :)

It's quite a challenge, but I'm loving the results thus far.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier. If you haven't already done so, these things might help get the last little bit off:

  • Switch to whole grains whenever possible. Include a little at every meal.
  • If you eat a snack, make it Protein between lunch and dinner and dairy or fruit after dinner. Don't pick fruit only if you're hungry. You'll need the dairy to stay satisfied.
  • Bone up on calorie vs Protein and eat protein sources that have at least 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories.
  • Weigh your food
  • Track your fluids and get 64 oz. per day.
  • Get some low cal veggies in at lunch and dinner.

If that doesn't work, you might consider 5:2.

Good point about carb intake... I may be taking in too many fruits (I love my grapes). I think I'll try to switch up my Snacks. I don't really do grains, but I'm comfortable with that. And good reminder about Water intake- I tend to slack on Water when I'm at work.

Thanks!!!

@@lsereno

what is "5:2"?

5:2 is an eating plan named because on two days a week you consume a very restricted caloric intake. There's a huge thread with lots of great links pinned to the top of the Vet's Forum.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
