Just making us a new thread now that we have found each other.

How are we coping with the pre-op diet? How is your "head" - who is nervous?

How is the weight loss this past week?

These are just some possible things you might want to post.

7 down 7 to go! I felt weak this morning, but I know that it was because I didn't get my required amount of protien in over the weekend. The thought of drinking shakes makes me want to gag.... Not hungry, just don't want the shakes.

I have gotten my day of surgery instructions from the surgical dept. so now I just wait for Nov. 17th. Excited but nervous!!!

Hello! Bajagal here. My surgery is the 20th of this month and the pre-op diet is doing fine. My surgeon put me on a diet of chicken broth, 2x day, Protein bar 2x day, Protein shake ( premier protein)2x day, list of vegtables (non starchy) i can eat fresh or cooked durring the day.i cook some vegtables with i can;t believe its butter spray ( no cal or oils- 0 carbs) and pam in the oven. whey Protein mix with sugar-free H2O strawberry Water 1x Day, and a lot of Water. i started at 326 pounds on a high protein low carb food diet on October 15th,then started on my pre-op liquid & veg diet on Halloween 31st. I now weigh 310. I am kinda concerned that my blood sugar will drop after surgery. and hope there is not to much pain. but at the same time i know things will be better in time!

Thank You Bajagal. :)

Yay - I am glad people responded!

I am on day 9 of pre-op diet. I have a shake in the morning, then chicken (3-4 oz) and a green veg (2 cups) for lunch and supper. I am eating Jello when I need something in between. Peppermint tea seems to take away to sweet tooth.

So far, I am feeling great. I have not had blook sugar problems at all.

I have my pre-op dr appt tomorrow at 3:30. Hoping to get a time.

What is the hardest for me at the moment is trying to plan out my classroom activities for a week for a sub! ha

Just curious...but why are so many people's pre op diet different. Mine is all liquid but I've seen on here vegetables, chicken, things like that. Just curious...I know its the physician's discretion but just wondered if one was any better than the other.

I'm on day 6 of my 14 day pre-op diet - surgery on the 20th. Mainly just miserable because I can't eat anything. Not starving anymore but miss being able to chew ???? my doctor does 3x Protein Shakes per day, broth, sugar free Popsicles, and Water. The nurse said if I was absolutely dying I could have half a cup of low fat cottage cheese. It is the hardest thing I have ever done. Would kill for a can of carrots! I'm down 6 lbs in 6 days (I feel like it should be more considering I can't even have veggies or any kind of solid food whatsoever, but that just goes to show you how messed up my body is, I guess ????) So ready for surgery and for this to be over! Stay strong guys! ❤️

Wow I feel kind of unique in my preop diet. My surgery is the 19th but I only have 5 days preop diet starting on the 14th. Strictly liquids (including Protein shakes). I'll let you know how it goes once I start.

I start my pre-op diet on Monday the 17th, only 3 days for me (feeling very blessed in that), but when I start it will be all liquids: 3 or 4 Protein Shakes, any and all Clear Liquids. ex of any and all clear liquids: thin broths or bouillon, no added sugar Gelatin (any color), sugar free drinks like crystal light, sugar free popsicles, If blood sugar being too low becomes an issue 100% fruit juice (apple, grape or cranberry) diluted by 1/2 with Water.

my surgery is set for the 20th!!!

My excitement is growing by the day, I can't wait for next Thursday to arrive!!!

I am scheduled for the 21st and my pre-opt diet has been horrible at night. I do good all day until night when I have to cook for my family. I just start over everyday. My Water intake is great! I just can't wait to be in the other side of this journey.

I have been on shakes only since Tuesday and while I am not hungry I am sick of the sweet taste. I have been having broth at night to have saomething "salty". Clear Liquids start on Saturday and I report Monday morning at 7:30.

I am very excited and not nervous at all. I am down about 11 pounds since starting the pre-op diet.

It will be a great new adventure!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
