What food did you eat that you knew you shouldn't?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is in two weeks and I've started the pre-op diet, which has just got me curious. The title says it all. What foods - preop, postop, and months/years after surgery - did you eat that you knew you probably shouldn't have? Did you pay the price? We're you pleasantly surprised? I'm a little sad that as I've transitioned to this phase and that it's goodbye to a lot of food I love, so I just wanted to start an interesting little confession-type topic to ease my mind! :)

Hi, First off Welcome and good luck on your Journey. I am over two months post op and just yesterday I had a 1/2 of a glazed doughnut. I was suprised that nothing happened, I know it was wrong but Man did it taste great!! I hope I'm not setting myself up for failure. Let us know how you're making out.

I have heard that some people chew and spit. So that you get to tast that bad thing that you crave but don't pay the price. I'm still pre-op.

I ate a little bit of a piece of cake last month. I knew I shouldn't have because it could have possibly caused dumping syndrome due to the sugar. It didn't.

I ate some chicken wings and took the skin off. Even with the skin removed it must have been pretty greasy and I got sick immediately.

At this point I have found that if it is at all greasy, I get sick. I would rather not have it than feel the way it makes me feel but you almost have to try things to find out what you are able to tolerate.

Thanks for all your replies! That sounds interesting about chewing the food and spitting it out. Hadn't really thought of that. While it seems like a good idea, I'd be afraid of being tempted and going through the swallowing motion, too, lol!

My weaknesses come when I'm hungry. If I'm not hungry I don't think about food, but, when I get an appetite, instantly my mind starts wandering and all the unhealthy options start running through my mind. Thats one reason I'm having the surgery, because I feel like if I can fill up on healthier choices it would help me shy away from the unhealthy ones.

I'm just starting to get nervous because already I'm missing food and I'm only day 3 preop.

Daron I had same experience on pre op diet. I mourned all the food I would never taste again. I can attest to post op the feelings of food obsession go away. A lot changes chemically in the body and mind. Hang right.. it will get better.

Sounds like seriously disordered eating to me.

I swiped a Frito from my daughter's plate last weekend with lunch.

I was happy that it didn't cause me any issues, but sad that I didn't resist the temptation.

A few cheese fries from my son's basket last weekend at an outdoor fair. They were delicious and I regret nothing.

diet coke. We are all told no fizzy things. I've not had any reaction. Now I do let it sit for a few minutes to flatten it a bit, but I so love diet coke.

I'm enjoying one final week of solids before I go full fledge liquid next Friday. My preop diet is 2 shakes and 1 meal per day. I'm enjoying that meal with every Fiber of my being lol. Next Friday is liquids only. I've been eating main,y chicken, though Tóday I did have a sirloin steak. Great in Protein and low in carb. That's been my goal. I'm only doing about 50-55 carbs per day, which will lower next Friday.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
