I have actually averages about 1200 calories per day for the past month. I have, from the beginning, tried to avoid comparing myself with others because I seem to require more. It may be because I'm very active. But even at this many calories, and getting all my Protein and Fiber in, I've had to worry about losing hair and etc.

Plus, I really think my surgeon made my pouch a little bigger, maybe because I was already at 235 pounds (down from 303) on the day of the surgery. I don't now. It just seemed like from the beginning I had control, but not the "2 Tbsp and I'm full" full people described. I also haven't had an adverse reactions to anything I've eaten except heavily fried foods.

As long as I feel healthy and losing 1-2 pounds a week, I'm trying not to stress about my "overeating" at 1200 calories, but when folks post things like "800 calories," I really wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

Peace,

Glenda

Glenda, you sound just like me. My surgery weight was 225.8. I average about 2 pounds a week. I don't get that feeling of "oh my, can't have anymore!" after only a small amount. I've tolerated everything really well (maybe too well). I've ate 1/2 of hamburger with bread, one morning I had two donuts and if anything it only made me 'light headed'. Now I'm not going to make a practice of the donut thing... I've had the foamies 2/3 times and I've had pork chop felt like it was stuck once and steak once but I've ate steak at other times and no problems. I also wondered if Dr. made my pouch bigger!

I have a funny to tell....

I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday and I turned an isle and started walking down it, only to realize it was THE MIRROR isle! The one I usually panic and avoid quickly! Well, I glanced to the left and caught my reflection. Whoa--is that me?? I like what I see!! So I kept going down the isle, looking right-then left-then right-then left...at ALL the mirrors!! It brought me to tears how OK I was with what I was seeing in the mirror!

So then....once I was through the isle, I turned my cart around and went BACK down the isle again!!! Did some more shopping...and when I was ready to go, I went down the mirror isle just one more time on my way to the check out! Hehee!!!

:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

And after 2 weeks at 182, my scale finally showed 181 this morning! I wasn't really too worried because I knew I've been eating what I'm supposed to be, so I knew at some point my body would let some more go. And I'm due for my period in the next day or so even--which in the past guaranteed about a 3-5 pound gain. So I welcomed that 1 pound with open arms! :)

So funny, with the mirror aisle. I totally relate. I have a large mirror in the hallway and every time I go that way I catch a glimpse of my reflection. I still wonder if that's really me. Can I really be that small?

Hi everyone,

I have a question, did any of your doctors or NUTS talk about expected weight loss? I know, everyone loses at their own rate, but I have no real feel for what is the average expected weight loss with Gastric bypass. I remember vague conversation about a certain percentage of excess weight being expected. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've been averaging 1200 calories a day. I'm 5ft 10in so my Nut says that's ok. And I'm fairly active.

Beni - at 6 months the average bypass patient should have lost 40% of their excess weight. I made my dr give me a ton of medical documents for statistics, I'm a nerd like that ????

I heard of this website. http://obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-bypass/how-much-can-i-expect-to-lose

Here's another link to the same calculator: http://obesitycoverage.com/how-much-will-you-weigh-after-surgery/

The calculator does results for RNY, sleeve, and lap band patients.

I might have heard of it on this very thread. Many thanks to whomever mentioned it. It's been very helpful to me and my wife.

I had an RNY. She had the sleeve.

I say the closer you are to the weight calculated by this website, or if you lose even more, you should pat yourself on the back, and count it as a MAJOR victory. I do!

And definitely pat yourself on the back for all the health improvements you get!

You are also VERY tall. You look AMAZING at 196. If I were you, I'd play it by ear, so to speak. Keep making healthy choices and being active and see where your body settles. I'm betting you'll be closer to 160 than 150 for a health, maintainable weight. At your height, anything below 180 would put you in the "normal weight" BMI range (not that I'm a fan of the BMI scale).

All that to see, you look FABULOUS now. Congratulations!

@@Glyndalin thank you sweets, I'm looking for opionions because my family says I look like a stick but I think its just because they were usto me being gigantic. I would not mind 160 at all, I don't remember ever being 160 lol. If I can get to 150 even better, I know for a fact that I need to work out to get the body I want though. Someone asked how many calories we are averaging at, I don't even keep count anymore but I'd say I get 300 to 500 now, and some days that I decide to sleep all day I get in maybe less than 100. I've been stalled for a while now but I also had a period and I usually lose 5lbs after it goes away. Thank you for your input I really think I'm going to just keep doing what I'm doing and see where I end up like you said.

@@Getting-used-to-new-me

Thank you so much for that link on the weight question. I was able to calculate my expected weight loss. I was 270 and I'm 5' 5" and the website stated I can expect to lose 100 lbs. That will place me at 170 pounds. Fantastic, I will be very happy with that. I'm 197 right now and I already feel amazing. Only 27 pounds away from what is expected. Anything else is bonus but I am not going to fight it. I'll let my body dictate and I will focus on health instead.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
