What kind of foods are you trying? It's normal to be lactose intolerant. But they say wait a few weeks and try again and it might be fine. My Dr. told me to treat my new stomach like a newborns tummy. Eat really mild. Did you have to do the pureed stage? That's what I'm on.

I did grill some tilapia tonight. OMG, it was SO good!! I just chewed, chewed, chewed and it went down just fine! I also had pureed cauliflower and taters. Mmmm.

Amylynn I am just trying to get heavier liquids in. Now before I can start soft foods. I was supposed to go to puréed foods after that and I started bubbling in the back of my throat :/ so I had to go back to straight Clear Liquids. Tonight I had 4 super tiny bites of mashed potatoes it was the first thing that hasn't made me want to puke. I finally bought ginger and lemons and limes to freeze for my nausea. If I'm not feeling better in Thurs I'm asking for zoforan or he patch again! My doc said it sounded like I was dealing wit some residual inflammation. I cannot complain too much, I have lost just over 30 lbs according to my scale at home... When I'm naked lol ????. And I was so blessed I spent 24 hours in the hospital! I cannot believe I lost so much in a month, it seems like that's not the "norm" but I didn't have a pre surgery diet. My insurance only approved my procedure 36 hours before surgery, so I didn't really have any prep time. My doc has been wonderful though!

I wear a binder and have to wear it till the end of December. What I do is, I put it on over a camisole kind of thing under a regular shirt. At home, I have big comfy tee shirt type nightgowns. I wear the binder over them too. No incision irritation! Hope this helps!

. I wear a "tummy tamer" I couldn't get the binder to stay on it kept getting bunched and weird... I don't know if I was supposed to stop wearing it or not, but it (tummy tamer) has been so much better for support and comfort.

I will have to try both of these ideas. I just feel like I'm holding my belly a lot, especially at work. A little support there would help a lot. Thanks gals!

Oh goodness, I've never had that feeling before. Nausea, yes. But usually if I've eaten too much or too fast.

I always weigh naked too! I've lost 30 as well, but I had two weeks liquid diet before surgery. That's awesome you got approved and scheduled for surgery so quickly!

I hope you can get through the nausea soon so you can eat something!

ok mom!!! :)

Dehydration is my biggest fear, it can happen so easy. And I cannot afford to get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital.

I am two weeks past surgery and I have not lost any weight in 3 days. In fact, this morning I had gained 0.6 of a pound. I only eat 2 tablespoons of food 3 times per day and 4oz of Protein Shakes also 3 times per day. I am moderately active. How is it even possible that my weight loss has come to a halt. I know, I always knew this surgery may not work for me. I will be the only person in WLS history who fails to lose weight. My worst fear is upon me. What do I do?

Hi, it's been a while.

The last few days I feel like my nerves are made out of

strings... One bad sentence and I start to cry... I don't know maybe because

I used to eat or smoke or have a coffee instead of crying, and now I don't.

Does this happen to anybody else?

@@Beni, are you getting in all your Protein and liquids? Are you going to the bathroom? U know what I mean. Try and eat a little more, make sure your body hasn't gone into starvation mode. Put the scale away for a few days. All that being said, I had gotten down to 155 last Friday, then Saturday back up to 157, took til this morning to see 155 again and only weighed myself 20 time between Friday and this morning. But I don't have a problem with the scale, haha. Think I need to hide it somehow.

Beni don't worry, last week I haven't lost any weight for five days so I had the same negative thoughts

but now I am back on track so I am sure it will restart for you as well. One thing, isn't 3 Protein Shakes too much? Be careful with the calories in Protein shakes!

Beni, I agree with DoraP, I would cut the protein shakes. Work on small frequent meals. And tons of water! That will flush the ketones your body is making. You could possibly not be flushing them with that many meals. My doc said, the most important thing the first 4-6 weeks is hydration not protein, you could re stretch your pouch too soon. This surgery will work for you???? it's hard to keep optimistic when the scale doesn't budge. You can do this! ????

I had the same and still will Stall

for a day or two as I take this journey. Two shakes a day (buy the ones that are 30 grams off Protein each). Make sure your fluids are 64 oz. My doctor recommends three 1/2 cup meals a day. And only weigh yourself once a week. Your're NOT going to fall. Keep the faith.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
