Bypass or sleeve? I was sold on sleeve but am having 2nd thoughts, help!

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve and am now 13 months post op. I've lost 140+ pounds, going from 278 to 137. I can tell you that I had a similar debate with myself when I was in your position. Because of the concern of losing more weight with the bypass, I initially started out planning to get that. After a couple months I realized that i wasn't comfortable with the re-routing of the intestines, and would be a lot more comfortable with the procedure itself of the sleeve. I guess the conclusion I came to myself was that no matter which you have (bypass or sleeve) it is a tool and it will only take you so far. What you do with it is up to you. So if I had the bypass and it helped me lose 80 pounds, and the sleeve would only help me lose 70 pounds. Big deal!! I would just work a little harder and lose that extra 10 pounds...

It's funny because I was just looking back over my blog (linked in my signature) and thinking about how I had these very concerns when I started and how much of a moot point it seems now since losing so much weight and being at a healthy weight.

You can totally be just as successful with the sleeve as with the bypass. It all comes down to the lifestyle changes you make and the choices you make long term, after the "honeymoon" phase is over.

Good luck either way!

My doctor mentions the SIPS with the sleeve surgery. Its not as dangous as the bypass and patients lose more then just the having the sleeve. It something you can talk with your doctor about.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
