Pain after surgery

Recommended Posts

Not too bad... I slept most of the time. Got a little nauseous as the anesthesia wore off. I had surgery on Friday, Sept. 26th. Sunday morning I felt as though nothing had happened! I filled my prescription for pain meds, but didn't need to take any.

I suggest asking the doctor to remove the gas used to inflate you to keep the skin away from the surgery. Mine did, so I didn't have any of the gas pains afterwards.

I has vsg on the 1st of October. Mine was in and out. I was home the same day. I wouldn't say it's painful, just mostly soreness. The gas pain was the most pain. But just remember to walk, walk, walk. And sip Water. You can do this :) Best wishes to you on your journey.

When I came out of surgery I had a pain pump, so no pain. They disconnected it the next day - still no pain. My abdominal area was a little sore for almost a week - sore like I'd done too many sit-ups. That was it. I was thrilled with the outcome.

@@BeagleLover, that's the first I've heard about asking the doctor to remove the gas! I'm so going to ask my surgeon to do that! Thanks for sharing.

If they can do that, why in the world don't they automatically do that as part of the procedure, knowing how awful the gas pain is for most people afterwards? sheesh!

I was surprised at how little pain I had...I only took two pain pills and that was at night, mainly so I could sleep, not necessarily for pain.

Everyone is different, I know, but for me, the pain and recovery from my c-section was much worse than this. I had an uneventful recovery, no nausea and I have not vomited since surgery 10 months ago.

Pain for everyone is different. I had little pain, didnt need any pain meds but i had a lot of nausea. I always had a sensitive stomach so i expected it. Just stay on top of your pain. If u need pain medication dont wait until the pain is horrible, try to catch it early and you'll b ok. Good luck

Had surgery yesterday at forest park Dallas with dr. Dirk rodriguez. The pain is not too bad. I thought I would save my surgeon the time and energy by letting the gas escape ,myself ( if you know what I mean)

From what I've read it's all over the board. Some had it hard some had it easy. Mine was shockingly painless. However the first few months of juggling nutrients and fluids made my head spin! Everyone's experience is very different. Just keep the faith, wake up and realize you've done a great service to yourself and SMILE! Good luck to you, it will be fine!

No gas pain or surgical pain or incision pain. A little cramping from the drain and some uncomfortable bloatiness for a couple weeks. Took GasX but never any pain Meds. Out walking and shopping from the day after surgery. Traveling, more shopping, plowing snow and back to work all within first week.

Mine was bad. But it varies by surgeon and by person. Some say their surgery was not painful at all. Take your pain meds and rest and don't overdo after surgery.

I had no internal pain and no nausea, but was on nausea medication. Four of my incisions were fine, but the largest one hurt MUCH worse than expected. I could't move easily for several days. However, the pain got better quickly, and I could move around very well by 5-6 days out. Started a new job on day 9 and I have been fine.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
