2 weeks out and I can eat far more than I should

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 9-18-14 so I am just over two weeks out. Today my clear fluids have been minimal but I have had 16oz of the Protein shake. The first 8oz was around 8/8:30am and then another 8oz around 3pm. Following this at 4pm I had one slice of cheese and one slice of turkey. Then at 5:30 I have 2 slices of cheese, 2 slices of turkey, and 6oz of Tomato Soup. I feel like I am able to far more than I should be able to at this point. I don't have any nausea, dumping, or that gross heavy full feeling. I am TERRIFIED that, for whatever reason, this surgery did not work for me. Any one else able to eat more than they should? I am panicking too early? As much as I am freaking out I have to remember I am only at 760 calories for the day. Also, I have had 38g fat, 52g sugar, and 57g of Protein. This really isn't bad at all. So I as a whole I am not over eating. Just in one sitting I feel like I can take in too much. I am really hoping this 9 month process to get to surgery and then having surgery wasn't for nothing!

I worried the same early on. It didn't feel like I should be able to take in 5-6oz of Soup with no problem. But I'm 7 weeks & 35 lbs down, so it is working. You'll see.

How much does your nutritionist say you should be eating. I had my surgery about the same time (9/16). I have been on liquids and blended liquids. But I have no desire to eat. I don't do shakes, I am drinking liquid Protein and I eat about 2.5 to 3 tablespoon condensed ccream Soup. So far it is going geat. I really think you ought to put the question to your doctor.

The 52 grams of sugar per day seems a bit high. There is a difference in sugar types. Is the sugar you are taking natural sugars such as those found in fruits or is it sugar such as refined sugar, honey, high fructose corn Syrup?

The sugar is natural - it was from the Tomato Soup which was organic. I don't generally have that much sugar at all. I found my linit this morning though. I had 8oz Protein drink and 30 mins later I have one slice of cheese and one slice of turkey. It put me over the top. I started dry heaving, my chest hurt and I felt awful! it lasted about 20-30 mins and finally it went away. I guess I don't have a "norm" yet and some days I will be able to et more than others. My nervous are calming down now lol I just want this tool to work so badly I am scared of any and everything ruining it.

I was just like this the 1st month after my surgery which was 12/8/14 but now it has really slowed and I feel unable to eat more than 2 tablespoons of anything...my surgeon says this is normal, being a newbie im not sure what to think? I have however lost 32 pounds in the 7 weeks since surgery........so you may find it slows for you too.

During first two weeks I thought the pouch didn't work because I could easily take in liquids. Week 3 now it's like a nerve woke up and indicates pain when I consume too much. The pain is awful.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Check your program I agree that you should check make sure you are following guidelines. My program doesn't allow sliced cheese or meat until much further out. Just remember you don't have to eat that much at the beginning your new stomach is still healing. Remember Protein drinks should be a sip at a time still. I consider Protein Drinks as a meal not a a water/liquid. I hope things get easier for you. you will feel much better once you get the hang of how much food and how often. Oh and if your program says you can have these foods, remember my program says. If you are having trouble with this stage go back to stage 1 and start again.

In the beginning I didn't have a sense of fullness or hunger I believe due to the fact that the nerve is cut. The sense of fullness did come back. I was told to weigh and measure everything that I ate and to follow my plan. At 4 weeks out my plan was about 400-500 calories with 60-70 grams of Protein but everybody's surgeon has a different plan it seems. Liquids such as Protein Drinks and other fluids have always been really easy for me to get down and I am grateful for that. Just follow your plan and it will work. I too was nervous that it wouldn't work for me but it is working because I am working the plan. Congrats on the pouch!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
