LapBand-friendly fast food (don't judge me!)

Recommended Posts

My nutritionist actually has Wendy's chili on her approved list for easing into the chunky food phase, so its not that bad!!

Some Panera bread Soups are also fairly low in caloires and fat. Their broccoli cheddar is actually pretty reasonable!

I have a smothered burrito at Taco Bell with no rice and no tortilla. They look at me funny at first, but it's really good. I have even got my daughter eating it that way. Also, if I'm really desperate when I'm traveling (which is a lot) I can have a jr. whopper with one half of the bun. (I eat any small burger the same way) I will eat a hot dog with a half a bun. A salad from Costa Vida or Cafe Rio (don't think they have these chains nationwide, but is a mexican grill)

I watch the huge amounts of food others eat and wonder how I could have ate that much. I kept my banding very secret so eating at friends and family is difficult

It does get easier with time

I rely on fast food for lunch breaks and sometimes for Breakfast. Occasionally dinner. That habit isn't likely to significantly change. What must change are the food choices from those places.

I've made these band friendly choices so far:

Wendy's chili

Subway chopped salads

Not so good for weight loss so saying buh-bye for now (saying buh-bye forever is too sad):

Popeye's chicken strips (fried)

Starbucks mozzarella and Tomato panini (carb-y)

I know I am not alone. Many of us rely on takeout for our meals. What are your band friendly choices?

I eat (out) but when i do, i just make as good choices as i can

sometimes they are not so great choices....but me having WLS is not

about me being on a diet..my lapband/plication will only let me eat so much

aka a small amount..but i choose not to eat bread/rice/pasta..and usually

get chicken nuggest/tenders or a beef pattie or a ceasar salad..(or tuna at subway)

living life with WLS is great...great post Just watch

Ok I now have a busy Tuesdays, I golf in the afternoon then go to the bowling alley. I have about 45 minutes, between places. This is the hardest thing for me, I don't want to eat dinner at 1030 pm. So as I drive past all these places, my head keeps thinking of this topic, I laugh at all the things posted on here. Last week I stopped at KFC for 2 chicken tenders, big mistake got stuck and you know the rest. This week went hungry and ate salad when I got home.So as much as you all post I still can not do fast food, the thought of pulling into McD, or Burger King , well just not yet. I told the wife one day, but I don't see that happening.

The burger joints are not easy because of the fried food smells. But I find I can walk in and out of Subway with healthy choices. They have Soup and sandwiches, but also salad made with anything you want. Also, I'm so thrilled that I discovered yellow banana peppers means I don't need dressing on a salad.

Panera has an awesome "hidden" menu with lots of Protein options.

I also can't do anything breaded ,so if I have to go to a fast food restaurant ,then it will be either Wendy's jr bacon cheeseburger with no bun or any grilled chicken from where ever ,now going to a restaurant I just make sure it's a Protein, with extra vegetables or I will give most of the sides to other people I am with .

Thank you for this topic! No judgment! Especially no judgement to banders. We all have our stuff. I use to love eating out. Now eating 3 bites... It's waste of money however I usually get a salad or Soup. Not because it's 'diet' it's just what I can tolerate. Definitely Wendy's chili. Sushi... The rice and seaweed doesn't pass. No matter how much I chew. It would take all day.

I like Boston Market. They have a pretty healthy menu and sometimes I'll get a container of Hot and Sour Soup...just keeping in mind the sodium.

Taco Time has a white chicken chili - a cup is only 150 calories and it has great protien in it. I do the Chipolte chicken taco's but only eat the insides....

I forgot about the Chick Fil A grilled nuggets! I get the kids 4-count meal and it makes me happy! After this conversation yesterday I had to go to Moes and get that burrito bowl...yummy stuff!

I love the grilled nuggets. BTW, you don't have to order the whole kids meal. I order just the four piece nugget. I don't want the drink, since I don't drink while I'm eating and I don't NEED the fries so I don't get them. If I got them I certainly would try to eat them.

Jimmy John's Unwich. Super Yummy! I do the Italian Nightclub. Instead of bread they wrap it in lettuce. At first I thought this is gonna suck but it's actually very good and since they're in my building at work, it's a regular if I forget my lunch. I eat about 1/2 and it's around 300 cal.

Wendy's Chili

Wendy's Caesar side salad and an order of spicy nuggets. I eat all of the nuggets and 1/2 the salad. Approx. 300 cal.

Arby's-1/2 of a turkey Swiss wrap (but I sub the Swiss for Cheddar:-)) Approx. 260 cal.

I will go to taco bell and get 2 regular hard shell tacos- 340 cal.

Popeye's- on occasion I will do the chicken strips (2). I typically do the naked ones instead of fried but some times I get crazy with it and get fried:-)

Steak N shake Grilled chicken taco salad- I pick out all of the chix first and then eat the salad. Get the dressing on the side

We have a great local fast food Italian place in KC and from there I will get a small side salad and 1 meatball (they're about 3oz.)

I've found there really are a lot of things you can get no matter where you go, even fast food, we can eat, enjoy and not kick ourselves about. it later.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
