Types of yogurt for full liquid phase

Recommended Posts

Today I graduate to the full-liquids phase, woohoo! My info packet says that for the full liquids phase (2 weeks for me): Is a milk based diet which includes foods that are liquid or semiliquid and high in Protein, like cream Soups made with non fat milk, yogurt, fruit shakes with non fat milk.

I'm starting to look at some yogurts and see that the Fage and Chobani plain have 7g sugar/carbs and anything with flavor has 14-15g of carbs and Dannon Light & Fit has 7-9g of sugar/carbs (but with flavors!). Although there are no guidelines listed in my packet, I'm assuming that I should be keeping low on the sugar here, right? Plain greek yogurt is pretty brutal for me, although I know I can get some of the flavored syrups and use that but the Dannon sounds okay.

What types of yogurt did you eat early on? How much sugar was okay and did you have any reactions?

I didn't worry about sugar or carbs other than to make sure to keep my daily carbs under 60. I ate a lot of Fage plain with Peanut Butter, almond butter, PB2, Protein Powder stirred in for flavor. I also ate a lot of Stonyfield Farm Greek nonfat, Chobani Simply 100 (all natural and it has lots of fiber), Siggis Icelandic yogurt, Trader Joe's nonfat Greek yogurt, and Voskos Greek yogurt. Also some Dannon Light & Fit and Yoplait Greek 100 but not as much just because of all the artificial stuff in them.

I am a fan of Fage 0% plain. I added a touch of honey in the beginning. Now, 14 mos out, I add walnuts and diced fresh fruit. Yum!

I also didn't worry about the sugars on the full liquid diet, since thats where most of my suagrs came from. At the time (I've since changed) I didn't care for Greek yogurt. So I ate Yoplait Lite (100 calories). Not even sure of the sugar content. I ate about 1 carton a day, broken into 3 meals.

Now a yr out, I can finish a 6 oz servings. I've since gotten hooked on Greek yogurt. My fav is Trader Joes NF Honey Greek yogurt.

My nutritionist said to try and stay under 10 sugar carbs per serving and preferably non-fat. I actually like Wal Mart's Great Value brand non-fat/unflavored greek yogurt. It's 9 sugar carbs per cup and I never eat that much in a sitting. It's also a great sour cream substitute.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I had a few thoughts that maybe some sugar would be okay since I'm certainly not getting any other sugar throughout the day but then I was worried that that was old me sabotaging new me with justifications. Good to know it's not. I picked up a variety of yogurts today to try.

You won't get lower than plain yogurt, because milk naturally contains sugar. I use Torani SF syrups, Protein powder and puréed fruit to flavor Fage And Chobani plain yogurt and control the sweetness. Any presweetened/flavored yogurt tasted too sweet to me (and had way more sugar)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
