Just about 10 months out ... Struggling

Recommended Posts

Surgery date : 8/16/2013

Pre surgery : 287

Surgery day : 251

Now : 180.1

Height: 5'4''

Just a little over 100 lbs down and I've been struggling to loose weight for about a month now. I've tied changing my work outs and swimming more but it hasn't helped because I find myself more hungry after swimming. I also have started taking more Vitamin D and I feel like with all the Vitamins , B12, and other meds it's just been very stressful to be stuck at the same weight for so long ... Any else struggle at this mark .....

Thanks for any support - Lissette

My surgery date - July 2, 2013

Pre-surgery weight - 263

Surgery weight - 250

Weight now - 190

Height - 5' 5"

Our stats are fairly similar. I have been struggling basically for a few months. I always read these posts about people stalling for weeks at a time - but I have essentially remained unchanged for a few months now! I know things slow down over time but this is getting ridiculous. I still monitor all my food in my fitness pal and do mostly walking for exercise. I still try to eat no more than 1000 calories, 50 grams of carbs and 80-90 g Protein. I have recently thought I could reduce my carbs even more. I also have to figure out when and how I can exercise more. I need to lose another 30 pounds so I am not ready to be done!

As frustrating as it is - I am sure it is the increase in carbs that are holding me back and I need to increase exercise - I just need to get it together and do both and see what happens. Sorry I don't have any valuable advice for you but I will watch the replies to see if there is something out there I havne't tried.

Good luck with breaking your stall and getting to your goal weight! :)

I am 6 months out and just broke a 4-6 week stall that was messing with my head! I am eating very few carbs and do Water exercises 4 days/week. Even though my weight was not changing - I was stuck at 191-192 - I could tell my body was still changing as clothes were still getting looser. Also, remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are exercising and not losing, your body may be converting fat to muscle. Keep the faith, keep the Protein in, the carbs out, and the exercise going. You'll start to lose again.

If you are going down in size but the scale is not moving - you still have a huge reason to Celebrate as you are converting fat to muscle at this time. Muscle is heavier than fat, and the more muscle we have, the more fat we burn. Congratulations.

I'm at 10 months also and I've been stuck fluctuating between 186 and 183 lbs since the end of February!! It's beyond frustrating. I've tried everything that I can think of - even went back on just shakes for 5 days - no change. Doctor's office is no help either. Nutritionist says "Perhaps you've reached your set point - where your body can easily maintain this weight." PA says that I still need to lose 13 more lbs. Still at between 800-900 calories per day, 60 or more grams of Protein, 50 or less carbs. It's really hard to stay motivated at this point but I'm hanging in.

Thanks everyone for the support ! I'll try and keep motivated my goal would be to loose another 30 lbs. I still only eat between 800-1000 cal a day heavy Protein and low carb . Sometimes it gets very frustrating not to see a change. I've started playing tennis weekly and still going to the gym for strength training 3 days. It's hard to not see a change literally been stuck since March same weight . Uuughhh

I was stuck for almost 3 months where I only went down a lb here and there. I thought I was done but all of a sudden I dropped 12 lbs practically overnight! I haven't changed anything or done anything different. I figure, if you're still eating limited calories your weight will eventually catch up... it's a mathematical certainty. Just stay on the program, if you consume less than you burn your weight will go down.

I got very stuck between 8-10 months. I was bouncing around between the same 2 pounds for a good 8 weeks. It was very frustrating. For me getting back to the basics helped get the scale moving again. I did a 3-day liquid diet to "reset" my habits and after that completely stuck to my "numbers" for nutrition. Since then the scale started moving again and I'm 2 pounds from goal!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
