I am 1 year out today! I'm 158 from 275. I have never dumped!! I have stuck to the program for 12 months. Maybe a couple of times had bread or a small cup of ice cream but really like maybe 3 times in a year. I never dumped. Also had to have gallbladder out 7 months post op due to rapid weight loss. Still super happy! Today is my 1 year and will post pics tomorrow. Love my sleeve!! It has changed my life in so many ways for the better!! Left my stressful job after 20 years and decided to go another avenue. Passed my state exams today and realized it is on my sleeve aniversary. How cool is that!!!!

I have been searching the boards but can't seem to find an answer. What is dumping? Other than the obvious....

I am 8 months out and eat what I want.( I do not pig out). It's impossible with the sleeve. I have never dumped. I have gotten food stuck ( it hurts) if I have eaten too quickly. This has been the best thing that I have done for me!

Am 2.5 weeks out and I have dumped twice. I am sleeved. First time was last Saturday night. I ate 1 falafel and some hummus. Deep fried falafel and the oil in hummus well it was out of me within 30 minutes. Thank god I was home.

Second time was 3 nights ago. I was told the frozen yogurt was sugar free. I triple asked and triple assured. They lied. I had 3 bites and 1 hour later I was again losing everything.

It does happen with the sleeve and if you follow the diet should be fine.

I thought the hummus would've been ok in purée atafe. The falafel i are only a little of and only insides. Well love and learn.

I have DUMPED, it is not impossible to dump!!

I ate a piece of fried fish and immediately after eating 3oz of fried fish I began to sweat, have severe cramping and chills for abt 45 min...I called my dr and told them what was going on and they told me I was having dumping syndrome and that I probably would have diarreha in the next 1-2 hours....It was an hour later and i was in the bathroom, once I used the bathroom i was fine. My dr told me greasy foods and foods high in sugar can cause me to dump same as sugar cause my sister who is a gastric bypass patient to dump! I have NEVER had fried foods again and I have not dumped again

I'm close to 4 months out, I've only had one instance when I ate Peanut Butter and got severe chest pains, hot flashes, nausea and vomiting. It passed after about an hour or so.

Dumping is possible with people who haven't had WLS.

As others have stated, you can have dumping with the sleeve. My experience came when I had a spoonful of PB that I shouldn't have. It's not a pleasant feeling, but it's not the end of the world, and goes away after an hour or so. I had more issues early on with PB'ing from eating too much, or not chewing enough. Neither experience is fun, but don't stress out about it. It's just part of learning how to eat again with your new stomach.

I immediately jumped to the positive side if it.

I was in a stall and it moved me out of it.

Don't stress it. It happens. I won't be eating these again for a really long time

Dumping is when undigested food passes into the small bowels. Gas and diarrhea is the result.

For the most part sleeve patients dont usually have to worry about this except when you eat foods you should be keeping away from. Fatty, greasy oily foods.

So if you eat what you are supposed to dumping should never be an issue.

It can happen to sleeve patients, but its as likely to happen to normal people as it is to sleevers.

My dr said the same thing. The only weightloss component that the sleeve has is restrictive only, not malabsorbtion - which is what dumping is caused by. I believed him.

At about 4 mths post op, I ate ice cream. I was in the bathroom cramping with disarrhea and I was sweaty for a couple hrs. I thought maybe it was a coincidence. So a month later, I tried ice cream again. I can eat, cheese, milk, yogurts - but not ice cream. I think it's the fat mixed with the sugar. It happened again.

I'm now 12 mths post op and able to eat maybe 2 bites of my hubbys ice cream. I would never even think about getting my own.

Good luck with ur decision and ur surgery! It's a whole new world out there!

@kimmerzj29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_dumping_syndrome tends to be most problematic in RNY patients, but can happen to VSGers as well.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
