4 week pre op diet ... why me?

Recommended Posts

When I first started reading the posts on the forums I saw that a whole lot of people had 1 day, 2 day, 1 week, 2 week pre op liquid diets. This made me feel horrible and sorry for myself :( because I had to do a 4 week pre op. But .....

Given that my first 2 weeks is coming to an end and I am moving from my high Protein, low carb, low fat diet to week 1 of liquids, I am thankful for the slow integration into the change in eating habits. I am down 13.8 lbs in 14 days and I feel AWESOME! :) My head hunger is much less, I'm off caffeine and sugar, I'm not craving anything.

I now "get" why my doctor has us do this. To get my eating habits in line, to detox my body, to be prepared for my new life. B)

I sort of feel bad for people who have a very short pre op because I feel like they are being "thrown into the fire" so to speak.

My advice ... start changing your eating habits NOW to prepare yourself, lose weight before surgery.

Good luck to all! I have 2 weeks and 5 days to go! :D

I too have read posts about people who had very short pre-op diets. I guess they had a lower BMI. My prep will be 4 weeks, same as yours and I start today. Not too excited about the carb detox headaches, but I guess it's better to go through it now! Good Luck!

The company I am with, the minimum pre op diet is 4 weeks! The higher the BMI, the longer the pre op diet. I fall in the low range.

I'm new on this forum/ app. Apparently the Dde03 is what happens when I tried to use :) I'll get the hang if it!

Thanks DarbiMolly! I started my 3 week preop diet on Monday. Yesterday was rough--had a really hard time focusing and saying awake. Good to know that it gets better--that's what I'm hoping. I do agree that it's a great exercise to get ready for a new life.

My surgery date is the same date as your 6/30/2014 :)

I think the main reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver to allow for more room for the surgeon to operate. Either way, great progress and I am glad you are feeling so well and staying positive. keep it up! :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
